Rivaled Love (Mixed POVs)

(Silver's POV)
I rush towards the hospital after Sonic contacted me. I had to see (y/n) to try and clear things up. I planned to walk her home afterwards. I finally reach the hospital and make my way towards the entrance. Suddenly, the huge automatic doors jolted open and a group of people marched outside. I sigh in relief when they left, since I was worried that I'd be trampled. Before I knew it, the doors opened again. Exiting the hospital was Shadow and (y/n). "What?" I snarled angrily to myself. Why was Shadow with her? Wasn't he unconscious?
I'm not usually the snoopy type, but I decided to follow them. The entire walk was a long one, and the two haven't said a word to each other. My face started to ease since nothing "romantic" was going on with the two. After all, I was a bit jealous and protective since I still like (y/n). Suddenly, I feel a crunch beneath my foot and hear a large SNAP!
Suddenly, I look up to see Shadow in a fighting stance, as he searched the area. I got to my knees and thought to wait a little while. Finally, after five minutes later, I stand up only to notice that Shadow and (y/n) was gone! I growled to myself. "Where could they be? I need to find (y/n) so that I can fix things!" I yelled angrily as I smacked my fist up against a streetlight post.
My ears suddenly stood up as I heard a quick rustling sound behind me. I began to glance around, but there was nothing. "It must've been the wind," said to myself. I broke my concentration on the sound and continued after Shadow and (y/n).

(Shadow's POV)
(Y/n) and I were silent the entire time as I walked her home. After all the strange occurrences, I felt like I needed to protect her. There was something special about (y/n) that always made me feel like I wanted to get to know her more, and become closer friends with her. I thought about it for a few moments while silence continued between us. Maria...she was a lot like Maria to me. Her kindness, and friendship towards me felt so similar.
"Well, this is it," (y/n) said, suddenly snapping me back into reality. We made our way up to her porch. She fiddled with her keys before getting to the right one. She sighed. "What is it?" I ask. (Y/n) looked at me and frowned. "I wish I could just be in your presence more because you understand me. After you leave...I'll feel so alone," she answered.
I continued to stay silent and (y/n) turned around, unlocking her door. "Goodnight, Shadow," she said sadly. I wanted to stay with her, but I knew the GUN Commander would want to hear from me. I had no other reaction in mind so I quickly grabbed her shoulder. "(Y/n), understand this. You'll never be alone. I'll be by you're side and I'll protect you, no matter what. I care for you, (y/n)," I said to her.
(Y/n) looked to me in surprise and tried to force a smile, but I could tell her pain was too much. Automatically, I pulled (y/n) into a hug. I couldn't see her sad face because I understood her situation so well it hurts, even though I didn't show it outwardly much.

(Silver's POV)
I had finally arrived at (y/n's) house a few minutes ago and this is what I see! Shadow was hugging (y/n)! What was going on over there on that porch at this time of night? My tail and ears stood on end as I growled and glared angrily at them. I balled my fists and considered throwing something at Shadow. Maybe something big...like a car. I shook my head in disappointment of myself. I sighed. "I guess (y/n) likes Shadow now. I blew my chance so what's the use?" I said. I was usually optimistic, but not this time.

(Y/N's POV)
For what felt like forever, Shadow finally released me from his embrace. I wish it could've still lasted but I knew he had to go. He looked at me as he held onto my shoulders. "Sorry, but I must go now, (y/n)," Shadow said. I could see a slight sadness in his eyes. It seemed like he wanted so badly to tell me something, but I didn't know what. "It's ok. Goodnight," I simply said as I turned around, heading into the house.

(Shadow's POV)
I looked at (y/n) as she slowly closed the door, taking one last look at me. I wanted so badly to tell her how I felt. I have finally realized that I, Shadow the Hedgehog...was in love with (y/n).
