The Beginning of Compassion

The next day, you woke up to the sun engulfing your room in light. You groaned a bit as you rubbed your eyes. The events of the previous day were kinda fuzzy, and you wondered if you were dreaming the whole time. As you sat up on your bed, your stomach growled and caused you discomfort. "Ugh...I'm really hungry!" You groaned softly. After a yawn escaped your lips, you got up and headed to the kitchen. You didn't really care that you were still in your night wear at the moment. All you wanted was a nice breakfast to get you energized for the rest of the day.
After making yourself breakfast, you noticed something unusual. Nazo wasn't up yet, or hadn't left his room at the very least. Usually he was always up a little earlier than you. "I wonder if he's still upset..." you asked yourself as you played with your food. The entire conversation from the previous day replayed over and over inside your head. The memory of his tears at the corner of his eyes. You couldn't help but feel bad for Nazo.
As you zoned out, staring at your plate for awhile, you hadn't noticed Nazo walking into the kitchen. You were too deep in thought to notice. He simply grabbed an orange from a bowl filled with them and peeled it. He wasn't feeling too hungry. When he was done, he turned around, hoping to head to his room unnoticed. Unfortunately, the orange slipped from his hands, hitting the ground. You jumped a bit when you heard the unexpected thud. Now back to reality, you turned to look at him. He sighed as he picked up the orange. Without even looking, he threw the fruit over his shoulder into the trash can a few feet away. Using Chaos Control, another orange appeared in his hand.
Before he could leave the room, you called out to him. "Nazo, wait! Are...are you alright?" You asked. You stood to your feet, looking at him with a concerned expression. Nazo was quiet for a moment, his back still facing you. "What do you care....?" He soon replied. You cocked your head to the side a bit. "Huh? I was just...wondering. I want to make sure you're ok. You poured your heart out to me yesterday. I could tell you really needed to tell someone about your past. It was killing you inside...wasn't it?" You said. Nazo stayed quiet for yet another moment. "It's pathetic how telling someone your darkest secrets is the only way someone will truly start caring about you..." he said before walking off.
You watched him go in surprise before scrunching up your nose a bit. "I'm trying to be nice to him, and all he does is-!" You paused, taking a deep breath to relieve yourself. "He's just upset...I made him feel even worse by sticking up for Sonic...and after what he did to him, I understand where he's coming from..." you muttered quietly to yourself. Sitting back down, you continued eating your breakfast. When you went to take a sip of your drink, your eyes glanced at the calendar. 'It's almost Christmas time...Perhaps I can get him a gift? Maybe it'll make him happy...at least for a bit...' you thought. You found it odd that you, Nazo's captive, was trying to make him happy!
"I don't know why I'm doing this...but I'm going to get him a gift! Though...where can I get one...? I can't even leave the base..." you thought aloud. You leaned back in your seat, thinking a bit. It seemed like your only option was to be creative and make something up. "A card maybe...? Try to make breakfast in bed for him...? Maybe I can order something online! Oh wait...I don't have any money on me....Hmm..." you muttered. The ideas you had were simple, but they were indeed sweet! Unfortunately, you didn't know what Nazo would like.
After breakfast, you took a stroll around the place, looking for anything that may inspire some ideas for a gift. The place was huge, so you used your speed to get around. You tried to be sneaky though since you didn't want Nazo to get suspicious about your plan to find a nice gift. You zoomed around, from room to room, and you had found a few things that you could use. As you placed anything that interested you into a shoulder bag, you eventually noticed Nazo was watching you from the doorway. "What are you doing...?" He asked, keeping his gaze on the half eaten orange in his hand. You quickly hid the bag behind your back and tried to squeeze between him and the doorway. "Nothing. Just bored and I'm...trying to find something to do," you lied. He looked up at you then looked at your bag. "What do you have in there?" He asked, becoming suspicious of you. An air bubble lodged in your throat and you looked back at him. You gulped and opened your bag. "Just random items I'm going to throw together for a creative project!" You somewhat lied once again. Quickly, you closed it back up before he could see much of anything that was in there. Nazo lifted a brow before shrugging it off and turning to leave. He wasn't in the mood to boss you around at the moment. Once he was gone, you swallowed the air bubble and sighed in relief before running off toward your room.
