Reid's Point Of View

The kids are at lunch right now. I haven't eaten anything since breakfast. I just haven't been as hungry. I'm sitting at a picnic table with Cameron, Dakota, Alice, and Angelina. Nate's nowhere in sight.

I've been texting back with Chandler.

"Who keeps texting you Reid?" Cameron asks.

"Just my brother," I say, putting my phone in my pocket.

"Hey, Cameron, did you take your pills?" Alice asks, getting up from the table. Then she stands behind him and puts her hands on his shoulders.

"Yeah yeah yeah... Just stop asking," Cameron says, pushing her arms away.

"Okay okay," she says, walking away.

"Jesus," Cameron says.

"Does she do that often?" Dakota asks.

"Everyday," Cameron responds, "I mean I know it's important for me to take them, but she really needs to stop asking."

My phone vibrates. I take it out of my pocket. It's from Chandler. I open up Messages.

I start to get up from the table

I start to get up from the table.

"Reid, where are you going?" Angelina asks.

"I have to take a call," I say taking my sunglasses from my head and putting them on.

"After you're done, do you mind finding out where Nathaniel is?" She asks.

"Yeah, sure, I'll see if I can find him," I say, leaving the table. I start walking to the woods. I then click Phone and find Chandler's contact. Then I click it. He picks up on the first ring.

"Hey," he says.

"Hey, what do you want to talk about?" I ask walking further into the woods, to get to the rocks that go off to the water.

"I... I... I just wanted to tell you... That I..." He says.

"Spit it out," I say as I arrive to the cliff area. I then see someone. No other than Nate. He's laying there on the edge with his legs hanging over. His hands on his chest and he has his sunglasses on. I think he's sleeping.

"I'm getting the operation the Monday," he says.

"Uh... Oh... Um, well, I guess I'll just drive to whatever hospital you're going to be at instead of going home," I say.

"Reid, are you upset?" He asks.

"No, just confused," I say.

"Reid, I'm not scared, I made my decision," He says.

"I know, but I'm the scared one," I say.

"Don't be, I'll be fine, I promise. I'll be back to me before you know it," he says.

"I hope," I say.

"Listen, mom wants to take me somewhere. So I'll talk to you later," he says.

"Yeah, tell her I said hello and I'll talk to you later," I say.

"Well, bye big bro," he says.

"Bye little brother," I say. Then I hang up. I stare off into the ocean. There's a little breeze too. It feels good and refreshing.

"He'll be fine," I hear Nate's voice say. Wait what? I thought he was asleep. I look over too him he's sitting up now.

"You heard my whole conversation, didn't you," I say, walking to him.

"Yeah, kinda," he says shrugging.

"So what are you doing out here?" I ask, sitting next to him.

"I have some stuff on my mind," he says.

"Like?" I say.

"Eh... Well, some 10 year old boy came over to me and asked some things about my scars," he mumbles.

"Oh, well, that's kinda unsettling," I say.

"Yeah," he says.

"That's not all that's on your mind is it?" I ask.

"No," he says.

"Well, come back when you're ready. The kids are asking where you are," I say getting up.

"Give me until the end of lunch. If I don't show, then come find me," he says, laying back down.

"Okay," I say, then walk back to the woods. The summer's just begun. So many more exciting things coming up.
