Nathaniel's Point Of View
"I'm going to kill that Liz girl," Dakota says. It's the last day. Dakota and I are sitting at one of the picnic tables. The kids are eating and voting. The kids get to vote to choose what to do in the morning and afternoon. One activity for the morning, one for the afternoon. When the glass shattered a few pieces of it cut my face, near my eye. More above it though. She already did my wrist.
"She didn't mean it, she was drunk," I say.
"But still people can't just hurt other people and say it was because they were drunk and that it wasn't fully their fault. They are 100% responsible for their actions no matter the circumstances," she says as she finishes cleaning the cut. Whatever she's using stings. I wince. "Sorry," she says.
"Don't worry, I'm fine," I say.
"There. That should have stopped the bleeding. I can't believe you didn't tell me. I thought we were good. I thought that you would tell me if something like this happened?" She says.
"Look, I didn't want... I didn't want to ruin your moment with something stupid like this," I say, shrugging.
"Nathaniel, the things you call stupid aren't. They are important. Like you," she says.
"Dakota?" I ask.
"Yeah?" She responds.
"It's June right?" I ask.
"Yeah," she says, "Why?"
"Well, my yearly is coming up," I start.
"You should be all set though, if you've been doing the injections, drinking enough fluids all that stuff. Because the goal is to gain weight," she says.
"Ugh," I say. "That."
"Nathan I know you don't want to gain weight, but you gotta. You're not fat at all, the goal is to get your body mass out of Higher Risk and get it at least to High Risk," she says.
"Yes yes yes, I know," I say.
"Know what?" I hear someone say. It's Reid.
"Nothing," Dakota says.
"Okay... Anyway the kids are all set with voting," he says.
"Okay," Dakota says, "I'll go get the results." Then she gets up and leaves. Reid stands at the end of the table to my left with his hands on the table. His arms outstretched.
"What were you two talking about?" He asks.
"Tomorrow," I say.
"Oh. I had a quick question," he says.
"Go ahead," I say.
"Do you want to do a video with me on my channel sometime this week?" He asks.
"Yeah sure. I'll do a video with you," I say.
"Do you want me to do one on your channel after?" He asks.
"Eh.. If you want to," I say, shrugging.
"It's going to be a Q and A video," he says.
"What hashtag are you using this time?" I ask.
"It's going to be #QnAMeNNate," he says.
"Wow. Nice hashtag," I say laughing.
"It wasn't my idea," he says laughing. Then pauses and says, "It was Chandlers'"
"Reid, he's gonna be fine," I say, putting my left hand on his shoulder.
"I know. I'm just worried," he says.
"Just think positive," I say.
"Yeah, I know. Speaking of which, how you holding up," he says.
