23. Your Worst Nightmare

"Matthew!" She cried as she held his limp body in her arms.

"Matthew" she choked, digging her face into his chest.

Tori was torn from her nightmares when she heard Cisco waking up.

"Cisco's waking up" she says and Barry speeds to his side.

"Cisco, hey buddy" he smiles and Cisco smiles back before holding his head in pain.

"How did I get up here"

"I used my super strength to pick you up and teleport you here" Tori smirks and his eyes widen.

"Super strength?!"

"She's just messing with you" Caitlin says, walking to Cisco,"lay down, you have a concussion" she orders him and he does.

"Please tell me you guys caught him" Cisco pleads and the two metas look at each other.

"We didn't" Tori sighs, "he was...gone...by the time we got here"

"I guess the attack on his family's company was a fake out so we'd catch him" Barry explains.

"But why?" Tori asks.

"To give him direct access to Star Labs" Cisco pieces together,"I should've known he was up to something. This is my fault"

"Hey, man. This is on me, too. I shouldn't have left before-" Barry starts to say but Wells interrupts him.

"This is no one's fault but mine. I earned the blame. I'm not interested in sharing it. Hartley doesn't think I've paid for my crimes and he's right. He won't stop until I do" he explains before beginning to roll out.

"Where are you going?" Tori asks.

"To earn back your trust" he replies, looking at everyone.

"What does that mean?" Tori mumbles to herself.

"I gotta go" Barry says after looking at his phone.

He gives Tori a quick kiss on the cheek before running to the precinct.

Put on the news in the cortex

Tori turns on the TV and when she does, she immediately sees Dr. Wells at the precinct in front of a dozen reporters.

"What's Dr. Wells doing on TV?" Cisco asks, standing next to Tori.

"Apologizing" she says before looking at him,"gaining back your trust"

"How about yours?"

"Eh, I haven't trusted him since I started working here"

Tori suddenly hears Wells saying "Iris West" so she pays attention again.

Iris asks Wells a question.

"Oooo look at my best friend being all professional and shit. Werk it" Tori says out loud.

The broadcast ends soon after and Tori sighs.

"I don't know how I feel about...all that. I think he only did it to lure Hartley"

"He did" Barry walks in,"well, he also did it for us but a part of it was for Hartley"

Tori walks over to him, slowly wrapping her arms around him and hiding her face in his chest.

He looks down at her confused but wraps his arms around her, pulling her closer.
