The intro was a flashback. Meg was 16 at that time.
Presently Meg's 21.
Just to avoid confusion :)
Chapter One
Can you answer this question for me?
Who in the world wakes up at 7AM during summer?
I do.
I groaned and pulled myself up with all the force and energy I have in my body. My hair was covering every inch of my face. I sighed and pushed it up.
"Megan! Get out here!"
And that would be my mother.
I stood up and made my way down the hall and to our living room. I stumbled on the way in, hitting my face on the wall.
Why am I so beat up?
You see I work at the hardware store 2 miles from here. I spent 5 hours from 6 to 11 PM, organizing the stock room, unloading trucks, loading trucks and fixing the shelves. Talk about inconsiderate when people wake you up at 7AM.
"MEGAN!"
"I'm right here! Damnit!" I shouted as I went in the living room, rubbing my forehead. I slumped on the couch and covered my face with a pillow. But it was yanked away from me immediately.
"Try and be productive for once, yeah? Get up." Mum said, pushing me off the couch.
"Mum, who gets up at 7 freaking AM during summer?"
She glared up at me. There's an evil look in her eye.
"We do, Megan. So while you're here, try to help out."
I can't believe in saying this but I wish I was back at my flat.
Mums already in her waitress attire. She waits tables at a café a mile from here. "There's already good in the microwave, I'll be back at 7, make sure to fetch the kids at this address," she places a piece of paper in my hand. "Oh and, don't forget to take Emily to her football practice."
"Huh?" I asked her in shock.
"I said dont forget to take Em to her practice..." She started walking out the door when I ran infront of her.
"Since when did Emily play?" I narrowed my eyes at her.
"The school chose her. Free training and she'll automatically be on the team in September." She said before walking pass me.
I took a breath of disbelief and turned around. Emily was already sitting at the table. Her head on the table. I stood beside her and tapped her shoulder.
"Football practice?" I ask her immediately.
"Yes, Meg... It's a good opportunity, actually." She said, yawning. "Only 15 were chosen. I can't miss this." She continued in a tired voice. Her eyes were still closed and she's leaning on her arm.
"Why?! Of all the sports, Em, why?!"
She opened her eyes and looked at me awkwardly. "Meg, it's been so long. You need to move on."
Emily might be 10 years old but she's really smart. She's mature for her age. There's something about football that I really despise now.
"Yeah, sure, okay... What time will your practice be?" I ask her.
"9:30. You are taking me right?"
I sighed and cocked my head. "Yeah, sure..."
