Chapter Nine
"Hands up, Meg!"
I look up and saw a white fluffy towel hurling towards me. I caught it before it can hit my face. I smirked as I dry my hair with it. Well at least make it less soaked.
The moment we were not so wet, we went to join his family at the picnic blanket. I sat beside Lottie while he sat right beside me. His hair is messy and he's only in his white t-shirt. This is the first time I've seen him without a jacket. And I've only come to know he has a tattoo on his chest and his arms.
In the university I go to, guys with tattoos normally have bad reputations. I find it hard to think about Louis going to late night parties, passing curfew and getting drunk. He's just a ball of sunshine.
"Meg?" I snap my head up. Louis mum looks at me with a bright smile on her face. Did she ask me something?
"Sorry?" I said quietly. This is so embarrassing.
She chuckled and put her sandwich down. "I said Do you go to university?" She asked sweetly.
"Um, yeah..." I said nervously and rubbed the back of my neck.
"That's good... Unlike someone whos planning to drop out." Lottie turned her head to Louis who just sat beside me innocently picking at a grape.
"You go to Uni?" I ask him. He nodded before popping a grape in his mouth
"But its a waste of time, I think." He said then shrugged.
"Waste of time?" His mum scowls.
He looks at her wide eyed and shakes his head. "What I mean is its so far and I hate being away from my lovely family! Mum I love you!" He beams. The twins laugh and continued eating their food.
"Well I think it really helps, right Meg?" His mum asked me. I chuckled and picked on the sandwich in my hands.
"I'm not going to sit here and have all of you interrogate me." He said taking the whole bundle of grapes with him.
"He's always like that?" I asked Lottie. She was laughing but she looked at me and nodded.
"And Megan's coming with me."
My head shot up, looking up at him. "I am?" I asked surprisedly.
He nodded before grabbing my arm and pulling me up. "See you guys later!" He beamed and he started taking us further from them.
Now we were sitting on the grass infront of one of the kiddie rides.
"Any reason why you dragged me away from your mother and sisters?"
He shrugs and lies down beside me with the grapes on his stomach.
"They might try and spill something you really shouldn't know. It's not important."
It still made me curious. But he still won't tell me, I'm sure. I turned around so I would face him even if he is lying down. Time to change the subject.
"Why did you take the job? I mean coaching kids In football." I ask him. He chuckled and looked up.
"I like kids. Well it's better than coaching teenagers who wouldn't listen to you, they're a pain."
He looks a little uncomfortable. Maybe his exact reason was trying to get away from minors trying to make him like them. He's not very difficult to like. He's a happy spirit and he looks good. It's not difficult at all.
I just remembered how Rick's daughters were drooling over him this afternoon in the house.
"I'd be happier if I stayed here all year rather than going back to university." He said.
"You were serious? About dropping out?" I ask him and he nods. "Why? You'd get a better job if you dont." I said.
He looked at me and chuckled. He got up and ran a hand through his hair before looking at me. "I don't mean dropping out completely. Maybe I can go back in the second semester. And, don't judge me alright," he chuckled. "I easily get homesick in uni." He said.
I really don't know how to respond. For him its the other way around of how I feel about university. Me, I just was to get out of here because this place is absolutely terrifying for me.
"I'm sure you have friends there, don't they keep you company?" I ask him.
"They're fine but it's totally different if you're with.... Them!" He says pointing at his sisters throwing grapes at each other.
I scoffed silently and shook my head. I looked down and picked on my shoelaces.
"Why? You love going to school?" He asks. I chuckled and shook my head.
"I hate it." I said with a smile.
I don't know if I want to continue this conversation anymore. It might get somewhere I don't want to go. I'm being presumptuous because there is a possibility we might actually go there.
For a long time I just sat quietly blocking the memory. I don't want to even think about it.
The moment I was silent, Louis was silent too.
I look at him and he's just staring at me softly. It's like he's studying me.
I raise my eyebrows at him, making him chuckle.
"You're interesting Meg. I want to get to know you better." He said silently.
"Same here..." I was surprised when I said that. I haven't really been so forward with guys but with Louis I feel like I can say anything.
"Let's play a game then..."
