Minizerk #3

Josh invited his friends around to swim in his pool. Summer time aloud him to do things like this since there's no plan for tomorrow. And everybody is sitting around bored, melting in the heat.

Tobi rushed over as fast as he could. JJ and Simon showed up together on their bikes since they practically live next door. All four boys live in the same neighborhood.

Josh brought them inside and they all rushed to the back. JJ instantly jumped into the pool splashing everyone else. Tobi ripped off his shirt and joined. Josh looked over at Simon, who was laughing at the others. Simon felt his stare and glanced to see Josh smiling at him. Simon smiled back.

"Are you guys coming in?" JJ called out.

"Yeah." Josh replied before dropping in the water. Simon followed soon, after laying his shirt by Tobi's.

All four laughed endlessly as they splashed each other. JJ would pick up Simon and throw him. Tobi and Josh raced each other. Simon would piggyback Josh, clinging tight, as they fought against the other two. Simon would eventually fall off and get submerged under water. It was so warm because of the sun and it felt so good. Simon opened his eyes to see Josh in front of him waving and then making a funny face before returning to the surface. Simon laughed out loud, letting all his air escape. He quickly popped up.

Tobi was sitting on the edge with his feet still in. Josh was floating on his back. JJ was standing out with a towel draped on his shoulders. Simon dipped back under and swam underneath Josh. He grabbed Josh's feet pulling him down.

Later, as the sun set and the darkness washed over, Josh started a fire and brought out marshmallows. They all talked a little about their families, telling funny stories. As Simon told his story about the time his trousers got ripped off in the mall, Josh watched intently studying his face.

"Guys I'm about to eat the last marshmallow." JJ announced.

"Aw, man." Tobi said. "I think I'll go after you finish it."

"Yeah, I think it's a sign the night is over." JJ agreed. "Don't you think, Simon?" He asked since they rode over together. Simon nodded.

"You guys can't stay for a little bit more? An hour?" Josh begged.

"Nah, my parents are gonna want me home." Tobi shook his head.

"One more swim?" Josh joked. Simon would stay but he needed sleep and JJ wanted to leave. So they did.

JJ said goodnight to Simon before disappearing into his own garage. Simon still sat on his bike. He thought about Josh and how he didn't want the night to be over. Simon turned his bike around and peddled back over.

Simon hopped over Josh's fence that surrounded the backyard. He saw the dark haired boy still sitting by the fire.

"Josh?"

"You came back?"

"You seemed to really want that one more swim." Simon grinned. Josh's face lit up. Simon walked over and sat next to Josh. They watched the fire for a bit. Simon and Josh would exchange glances without the other one noticing.

Simon squatted by the pool and tried to splash some of the water on Josh. It just barely reached him; enough to get him to turn around. He chuckled at Simon's attempt to get him wet.

"You'll put the fire out." Josh warned, warmly. Simon shrugged, rolling onto his back. His hand laying the water now cooling from the night air. Josh got up and ran towards the pool, jumping over Simon, into the water. Startled, Simon sat up which resulted in his face getting splashed. He giggled.

Simon positioned himself so he lay flat on his stomach, held up by his arms, his head looking out onto the pool. Josh surfaced shaking his head and wiping away the water on his face. He swam over to Simon. They stared at each other, smiling. The water reflecting on each other's face and the stars above watching them.

Josh pushed himself up to kiss Simon. Josh pulled back after a second, his face still lingering close. Simon searched Josh's eyes before returning the stolen kiss.

Josh got out of the water and laid next to Simon. They rested there for a while before the fire had diminished.

"I should go now." Simon sat up.

"Do you have to?" Josh pouted.

"Yeah. But I'll be back tomorrow." Simon reassured.

Josh walked with Simon out his back fence. He watched as Simon got onto his bike. Simon looked back at Josh one last time saying,

"I'm not gay."

"Of course you're not."
