[Josh POV]
I jolted awake to screaming. Blood curling screams from upstairs. I sighed climbing out of bed to Kaylah's room.
"Kaylah! Wake up! You're dreaming! Wake up!"
With that she jumped awake clinging to my chest.
I held her while she sobbed.
"It's okay. You're ok. I'm here. I'm here" I whispered as she began to calm down.
I'm gonna have to talk to her about this in the morning.
She soon fell asleep again with me assuring her I will protect her.
But I know I can't protect her from the nightmares.

|Kaylah POV|
I wake to the alarm I set on my phone beeping loudly. I rub my eyes, exhausted.
I climbed out of bed to stand. Walking around to the othe side of my bed I tried to gently awake Josh.
Keyword: tried
"Josh." I whispered "get up."
He didn't even stir.
"Josh. Get up." I tried again, shaking him lightly.
He only groaned quietly and tried to grab me back into my bed.
But me, having cat like reflexes. Jumped out of the way. But I managed to trip on my jeans I forgot to put in my hamper last night, thus face planting on my stomach into the dark hardwood flooring, my face narrowly missing the corner of my dresser.
"Josh! Get the fuck up!" I yelled from the floor in too much pain to get up at the moment.
He just sighed and rolled of of my bed on top of me.
"Ahh!" I screamed flailing my arms and legs trying to get his 200 pound fat ass of me.
"Jesus Christ! What have you been eating!"
"Hey!" He said in mock hurt, fully awake now. "That hurts, baby sister. Right here." I imagine him clutching his hand to his heart dramatically.
"You weigh like, a ton! C'mon Jon Minnoch. Get off the fuck off, fatty."
He finally got up pulling me up with him.
"Thanks." I wheezed.
"No problem bae." As he kissed me on the forehead walking out of my room.
"And I ain't your bae!" I screamed with a smile as he slammed my door.
"Whatever you say!" He yelled high pitched while running to his room.
I shook my head, still smiling as I went to my closet in search of a suitable outfit

Walking down the stairs the still healing bruises bugging me. Most of them are gone but, there's the tough few that refuse to leave.
They still hurt a bit but.. Only to the touch.
I walked into the gorgeous kitchen smiling at Josh. "Hey brotha." I smiled.
"Hey sista." He replied tossing me and apple and a water bottle.
"Thanks." I muttered putting the apple and bottle in my bag.
"Kaylah.." Josh started.
"Yeah?" I asked reaching into the pantry for the kettle, craving tea this morning.
"Why are you getting the nightmares again." He asked walking close to me
I stopped mid movement to exhale shakily.
"I.. Um.. He called me." I whispered looking down, away from his chocolate orbs.
"Stevens?" He asked, his voice dripping with confusion, fear but mostly, hate. And this is my brother we're talking about here. He's the kind of guy that would pick up a almost dead deer from the side of the road and drive it to the animal hospital.
But.. He is capable of this strong emotion. Only for two people, Eliott and our father.
I nodded silently. And I guess that's was his que.
The thought of school flew out of our brains in a flash.
"What!? And it didn't occur to you to tell me?!"
"I'm sorry! I didn't want you to freak. Like you are now.."
He sighed. Pulling me into his warm embrace.

[Josh POV]
"What did he say?" I asked. After a few minutes of silence.
"I asked him how he got my new phone number and he told me 'I have connections'. He told me he's out of prison. And he's gonna find me. He is finally free and I have been a bad girl. When he gets me, I will be punished for running from him.. What does that even mean?!" She cried.
"And he promised he will finish what he started so long ago. Then we can be together."
I shivered in disgust.
Eliott Stevens and I were best friends since we were four.
His family, well, him and his mom moved from Australia due to his parents' divorce when he was three.
He had a massive crush on my sister since he was ten.
She was the most oblivious child I had ever met when it came to his flirting and suggestive statements.
They finally started dating at age 14 in 8th through 11th grade.
She truly loved him. He fooled all of us.
He had hid their abusive relationship like a magic trick. He would hit her, molest/sexually and emotionally abuse her. And he did it for years.
He stole her first kiss, her innocence and her dignity. All in four years.
He was her first boyfriend. And after she broke up with him she told me she thought that behaviour was normal. That a good girlfriend lets him do what he wants with her. So, she never said anything.
He ruined her.
And now she will never be the same.
