Chapter 10 - Close Encounter

…Dana pausing outside of the PitStop entrance sees a police vehicle approach the parking lot.  Jamie notices the vehicle as well and quickly grabs the weapon from the roof of the vehicle and tosses it on the inside passenger side as she replaces the nozzle back on the lever and screws back on her gas cap.

  She stares at Dana the entire time as Dana nonchalantly provides her with a view of her middle finger.  Jamie replies with the same as she enters her vehicle and sits for a moment looking as if she were reading something on her cell phone.

  The officer steps from the vehicle noticing the small exchange between the two and says to Dana “You ladies need to behave yourself.” as he looks towards the direction of Jamie’s vehicle.

  “That thing over there is really disrespectful and was two seconds from getting checked before you got here.  Look at it…why is it just sitting the car?  Drive bitch!”  She shouts provokingly.

  Jamie replies from her window “Walk bitch!” as the heated exchange continues.  The officer puts his arms up gesturing the ladies to stop and says “Right now, you both are loitering and that is against the law.  You two don’t want to find out what I do to people who break the law!”

  Dana looks at his badge and notices his name and says “Well, Mr. Officer Bob, I feel that my safety is in danger by this crazy bitch.  Do your fucking job and tell this hoe to put the pedal to the metal.”  He snickers as he approaches Jamie’s passenger side window and says “Ma’am, I am going to have to ask you to leave if you are done here.”

  Jamie sat idly by with a jacket covering the weapon and looks past him at Dana, as Dana pulls her hoodie back over her head and waits for her to leave.

  She tosses the phone atop her jacket and reluctantly starts the ignition before speeding off.  Officer Bob, turns around and says “You young lady, need to be getting home.  You don’t need to be out here this time of the morning….there’s all kinds of people around that will do things to you.”

  Fearing reprisal, she asks Officer Bob “Can you do me a favor and escort me to my apartment?  I live in the Colony apartments.”  He eyes her figure beneath her jacket and glances at her hips and pauses before saying “Sure.  Let me run in here and grab a coffee and I’ll escort you to your apartment.” 

She gives a sigh of relief as she stands in front of the store with her hands in her pocket, waiting patiently for his return.  Minutes later, he returns and tells her, “Go ahead and hop in the passenger side.” as he heads towards the driver’s side of his vehicle with coffee in hand.

  Upon the doors shutting, he hands her his coffee and asks if she could hold it momentarily.  She grabs it and proceeds to starting his vehicle and backing out of the parking lot.  In transit, he starts small talk with Dana by saying “Why is such a pretty lady out this time in the morning anyway?”

  She responds with “I had to get some things that couldn’t wait till the morning.  If I would’ve known I was going to run into this crazy lady, I would’ve just stayed home.”  He chuckles slightly as he notifies the station of his location on his radio.  Dana looks out of the passenger side window enjoying the ride in silence awaiting her return home when suddenly she feels his hand touch her thigh.

  She looks over at him and says “Hey!” as he tells her “I was reaching for my coffee.  Can I have it please?”  She hands it to him while she watches him with caution.  “Where do want me to let you out at ma’am? “ He asks as he comes close to the apartments.  She points to it as he pulls the vehicle to the curb before putting the car in park.  She grabs her things and opens the passenger side door to exit when she notices that he has turned the vehicle completely off.

  Prior to closing the door, she leans over and tells him “Thank you.  You can go rove or something now.”  He leans over and asks her “Ma’am, do you mind if I use your restroom?”  She pauses for a second as this situation gives her the feeling of discomfort, when suddenly she sees a figure walking down the sidewalk.  “Yeah….sure.” She says as he steps out of the vehicle and closes the driver’s side door.  Out of fear, she sees the figure coming closer as she takes a closer look to see that it’s Lorenzo.  She drops her bag and walks to him giving Lorenzo a hug as Officer Bob, opens his driver’s side door to reenter his vehicle.

  “Ma’am, it looks like you have company.  I don’t want to bother you.  I’ll use the restroom somewhere else.  Have a good night.” He says as he tips his hat to her before closing his car door.  Enthralled with the fact that she finally got to see Lorenzo face to face, she notices that he looks exactly the same as the picture he sent to her cellular phone.  “What has you out here?” She asks as he responds by placing his hands on the side of her face and kissing her on the lips before saying “You.”  Shocked, she goes speechless as they both watch the police vehicle drive away.  “Hey, do you want to come inside?” She asks….
