Chapter 24 - The Solution

Following the events that took place between Lorenzo and Officer Bob:

  Chastity sits in the corner of the bathroom floor with her eyes shut tightly, hoping that when she opens them, the nightmare will be over with and everything will be happy again.  She cannot believe how far things have escalated from her mistakes and knows that there could be no reasonable explanation as to the vivid image given to Lorenzo when he walked in and saw her kneeled before the stranger.  The tears begin to pour down her face as she is deeply overcome with the feeling of guilt and despair.

  It was almost as if she felt like she was in the room alone until she suddenly realized she was still in his company.  She lifts her head, while wiping her tears with the sleeve of her shirt before noticing Officer Bob standing approximately three feet in front of her.  His image made her heart skip several beats as his battered frame staggered to remain standing.  As he held his loosened pants up to his waist with one hand, it appeared that he had lost a considerable amount of blood evident by his cuts and soiled clothing.

  Anxiously awaiting for him to leave, she watches him stagger toward the door of the restroom before he pauses and looks in her direction.  His look was menacing as he turns toward her and begins approaching her with slow lethargic movements.

   She breathes frantically as she glances around quickly awaiting for Lorenzo to save the day, but he was nowhere to be seen.  She looks down and immediately grabs Lorenzo's pistol that was slid by her feet.... pulls back the hammer and unleashes three shots into his chest that echoed throughout the entire neighborhood.

  The grounded Officer lay amongst the bathroom tile motionless as she tosses the scorching hot weapon to the side.  From inside, she can hear the distinctive sound of Lorenzo's vehicle starting curbside as he drives away putting emphasis on the gas pedal.

  With her hands over her face, she panics as she watches in disbelief.  "Oh my god.." she says as she steps out of the bathroom slamming the door behind her.  She stood with her back against the door as she slid to a seated position.  At a loss for words she is at a complete standstill.  She sits with her arms wrapped around her knees as she rocks back and forth hoping for an idea to surface or a sign from above.....but nothing was forthcoming. 

She knew that the repercussions were going to be unrelenting and did not want Lorenzo to do any time for a monster that she created.  She leans her head against the door as she stares at the ceiling allowing additional tears to trail down the side of her face.   Closing her eyes, let's out a deep breath before wiping her tears once again.

  She gathers herself and stands to her feet taking a step back into the bathroom.  Her voice can be heard from inside as she sang her favorite song completely out of key

"... I'm not gon cry,

I'm not gon cry,

I'm not gon shed no tears

No, I'm not gon cry,

it's not the time

cuz you're not worth my ...."

  She walks back out of the bathroom with the items she went in for.  Sitting back in the same position she was in, she leans her back against the door while sending a lengthy text message to Lorenzo.  Ten minutes went by before her message was completed and she pressed "send".

  She places the phone to her side as she awaits his response.  She leans forward to peek in the door of the bathroom, and sees Officer Bob still motionless as she returns the door shut.

  Her phone blinks from a notification of an incoming message as she reads Lorenzo's response.

  "Stay where you are and don't do anything!  I'll be right there!" read the text from Lorenzo.

  She presses the button along the side to power down the phone.  Once the screen went completely black, she placed the phone on the carpet to the side of her.

  Looking to the ceiling, she takes a deep breath, puts the barrel of the pistol to the roof of her mouth....then...
