Chapter 30 - ICU

"Hello?"

"Hey ma."

"Eddie?"

"Nah bae, this Lorenzo.  Damn, you already forgot about me?"

"Oh, hey boo...nah, I've just been dealing with soon to be ex and thought you were him.   I've been so worried about you. I've been calling you like crazy.  I figured the wifey probably had you on lockdown from that time you and I hung out.  Everything ok?"

"I'm gonna be alright. Just been going through a whole helluva lot, that's all.  It's stuff I really don't want to talk about right now. I just need to ease my nerves and I know you stay strapped with that greenery."

"No doubt.  When do I get to see you again?"

"Shit, I'm about to run by the hospital and pay my homeboy a visit and see what's going on with him.  His momma told me he was at St. Francis, so I was going to swing through and pay him a surprise visit.  After that, I'll come by your crib."

"Well, I'm not doing anything right now.  Do you think your friend will mind if I stop by there with you?"

"He wouldn't mind at all.  I do have to warn you though, I just recently found out that he's a little on the fruity side...but he's good people."

"He's gay?"

"Very."

"Hopefully he's nothing like this gargantuan lookin' hoe I've been having beef with.  Now, that bitch is something else."

"Hell, this nigga is something else."

(They both laugh momentarily)

"Let me throw some clothes on and do something with this head and I'll be over."

"Aight, just call me when you get to ICU."

"Okay babe."

An hour later...

  "Sir?.... Excuse me sir?" says Nurse Becky as Jamie lays comfortably atop someone else's mattress. Jamie's eyes open as she sits up in the bed with her hair a mess and face screwed up shouting "What's a bitch gotta do to get some sleep around here?  What bitch? What is it that you want?" The nurse's head leans back from the unexpected response from Jamie as she says "Well, sir....there's already a patient that sleeps in this bed.  He's on his way back and I'm going to have to ask you to return to the bed that you were assigned."

Jamie lays back down pulling the covers over herself ignoring her request as Nurse Becky stands before her in total shock of how disrespectful she was being.

  The nurse grows angry as she reaches over and snatches the covers from Jamie's body saying "Sir!  You need to go to your own bed now!"

  The 80 year old patient that occupied the other bed, slowly makes it to his feet, holding the hospital gown close to his body and inches toward the exit while Jamie's vision was seeing red.

  She sits up in the bed and plants her bare feet amongst the floor before nonchalantly grabbing her purse.

  Nurse Becky watches with her arms folded as Jamie reaches her hand inside the purse.

  Suddenly, Nurse Rita walks into the room "Ma'am, are you Jamie Taylor?" she asks as Jamie pauses, looks at her and says "Yes. Why?" She responds with "Good.  I just wanted to inform you that you have two visitors waiting in the lobby. One of them goes by the name of Lorenzo."

Jamie's whole demeanor changed drastically upon hearing this news as she makes her way to the laboratory with purse in hand.

  Nurse Becky watches Jamie in disgust and asks "Sir, why don't you use your own restroom?"  Jamie tosses Nurse Becky the middle finger and proceeds, ensuring her makeup was applied correctly and that her hair looks presentable.

  She looks at herself in the mirror and winks saying to herself  "Now that's a bad bitch."
