Chapter 85: Family Gathering

Ryuuki walked near the Censorate and was surprised when he saw his son having tea with Shuurei under a tree in the nearby garden. They are eating peach sweet bean buns. 'Why didn't those two invite me too? I want peach sweet bean buns too!' He quickly walked to them.

''Father, what are you doing here?'' Riou said in surprise.

''I should be the one asking that,'' Ryuuki said and sat down beside them without being invited.

''Don't be like that to Prince Riou,'' Shuurei chided. ''Here have some tea,'' she offered as she served Ryuuki and he smiled immediately.

''I have finished my job and I got bored so I decided to visit Shuurei-sama since she said I can come whenever I like. I thought you have a lot of work father,'' Riou alleged. Shuurei wondered why Riou did not hesitate to call Ryuuki as father.

''I have finished my work too and decided to take a walk. Why won't you try calling Shuurei 'mother'?'' Ryuuki said with a playful smile.

''Father I thought you have stopped proposing to Shuurei-sama?''

''I did but even so she will be your mother in the future,'' Ryuuki believed.

''You're so full of yourself. Who said that I will be marrying you?'' Shuurei protested.

''Eh? Don't you like Riou to be your son?'' Ryuuki asked.

''That's not it,'' Shuurei corrected. ''I'd be so happy to have Riou, I mean Prince Riou, as my son but you are not included there,'' she continued.

''Come on Riou call her 'mother','' Ryuuki insisted.

''Father stop bothering Shuurei-sama. You are a nuisance,'' Riou protested.

''Don't tell me you don't like her to be your mother,'' Ryuuki asked.

''Wha - that's not it. I can't suddenly just call her mother even if I wanted to. She's not even married to you,'' Riou thought.

''Just try and say mother just once,'' Ryuuki still insisted.

''Ryuuki why won't you just eat and stop bothering Prince Riou. Don't force him to call me that if he can't,'' Shuurei chided and gave a bun to Ryuuki.

Hearing what she said, Riou thought that he is being rude to her and tried saying it. ''Mother,'' he said to Shuurei with a shy look that he really looked like a child for once. He had grown older in age but the way he looked did not. He still looked like a child aging from ten to fifteen.

Shuurei stared at him for a long time and he thought it was a mistake calling her that. But then Shuurei suddenly hugged him.

Shuurei did not know why but her heart warmed when she was called that by Riou. She would never get the chance to be called as mother by a child since she cannot bear one. Somehow, hearing someone call her that overwhelmed her. Ryuuki knew that fully well, that's why he insisted. ''Hwuuah, Riou-kun... I mean, Prince Riou. Could you say that again,'' she said as she hugged him.

Riou was confused but he said it again. ''Mother.'' He liked Shuurei's hug, it really feels like that of a mother. He felt like he is loved.

Shuurei hugged him again. ''You're so cute when you say that. From now on you can call me mother,'' Shuurei declared. ''I am so happy to have you as a son. A mother would be so proud to have a son like you. You can always come to me okay? You can tell me everything. I'll be your mother now,'' Shuurei said knowing fully well that Riou did not experience the love of a mother.
