AN: This chapter covers A LOT. Don't be skimping lol.
Chris
I feel her body come closer to me. She rests her head on my back and uses her finger to trace circles on the left side of my back. I don't know if she knows I'm awake, but I'm not going to move an inch. I flutter my eyes open...
"Happy birthday to you!" The singing filled the dining room area. I had a small smile on my face, switching my eyes around. To Michael and Angela, then to Thomas and then my mom.
It's just the five of us, just how I wanted. I'm not in the mood for a party or interactions with people I don't care about. I'm eighteen, legally an adult now. Different mindset, well maybe the new mindset is coming soon.
"Okay make a wish!" Mom cheerfully said. I stared down at the candles. I don't really have a wish, so I just blow the candles out.
"Ah, you didn't even make a wish!" Michael bellowed, causing everyone to laugh. And a quick smile on my face, but it faded as fast as it came.
"My fault, I'm rushing but since this is the only cake I'm getting...I think it's necessary." The joke tasted bitter, but I had to cover up my 'hurt.' I can't be depressed and let them see that I'm still dealing with the aftermath of Miya leaving me.
Michael and Thomas snickered, while Angela shook her head. I passed the cake towards my mom so she could cut it, and serve it to us. She obviously doesn't get the joke, I can tell because of way she's looking at Thomas and Michael confusingly.
"I don't get it..." She murmurs, while cutting the cake.
I laugh to myself, before sliding the plate of mash potatoes my way.
"So, this is all you wanna do for your birthday?" Michael asked, sitting next to me. "Angela and I are about to go out to eat, if you—"
"And be a third wheel?" I lick the mash potato off the side of my finger. "No thanks." I took a spoonful of the mash potatoes and practically disappeared into a fantasy world for a quick minute.
"Aight well... We heading out." He pats my shoulder. "Happy birthday bro." We dapped up, as he walked off.
"Happy birthday Chris." Angela smiles, and gives me a side hug.
"Thank you." I coo. I mind my own and eat up my potatoes. They say their goodbyes to mom and Thomas.
"So what we bout to do?" Thomas asked. He helps himself to his piece of cake.
My phone vibrates, and of course my heart is expecting someone. I pull my phone out and meet a Twitter notification. "Well, ima' eat these mash potatoes, take a minute break then eat my cake. Then..." I turn my head side to side, and see my mom is nowhere to be found. "I'm about to smoke a few blunts... I wanna get so high to the point where I can't feel my face, you down wit' it?"
He shrugs with a chuckle. "I haven't smoked in awhile, but I thought ya' mom made you dispose of all your drugs?"
"Yeah... In the house, I got the shit in my car." I laugh.
"I don't know bruh, I've been sober for awhile." He says.
I withhold from an annoyed groan. "I'll just smoke by myself, I ain't forcing you."
