Chris
The loud murmurs of words I couldn't understand roamed the cafeteria. I waltz past people and their five second stares. I didn't know how I was going to pull off this plan of mine. I had to leave, but make sure to come back right on time for the finals. My last game of high school basketball.
These years flew by... I smiled to myself, remembering when I first entered high school. Back then my teeth were crooked and I had a small lisp. It's funny now that I deeply think about it, I thought I was really that guy. My first year of high school was easy for me, no one really picked at me because I was a freshmen. Mainly because I played basketball pretty well.
Now that I'm a senior I play basketball past pretty well, I'm easily the best player on the team. I carried us to the finals as the undefeated team, being that I'm the captain. Thomas was a close second. Realizing that made me wonder if he got any offers yet.
I approached my table, seeing Thomas, Desean, and Sean seated having a small conversation. I was just about to speak when I saw a pretty smile from afar. I glanced down and picked up my book bag.
"Hey best friend!" Tiana cheered. I gave her a head nod as she came near me. I felt my friends burning holes in the side of my face. Keep walking Tiana, please and thank you...
"Thomas?" I quizzed. He looked at me waiting for me to speak. "Did you get any offers, yet?" I asked, in hopes that Tiana would see I'm having a conversation and she wouldn't stop to have a chit chat.
"Yeah." He said, stuffing a fry in his mouth. "One from CSUN."
"So you not going to UCLA?" I asked. One of my aspirations was that we could go to the same college. I would always see the college guys from basketball teams talk on TV about how they knew their teammate since they were eight. And honestly, it'd be weird not seeing Thomas around all the time.
"I don't think so man, that's a hard school to get into." He said. "Besides I shouldn't pass up this offer, who knows if I'll get another one."
I nodded. "I understand bro. Damn, shits crazy... I-"
"Hey Chris." Tiana greeted me in a calmer tone. Thomas gave me a look as I shifted my eyes away from Tiana and pretended to attend to something in my bag.
"Sup." I murmured. "But yeah, did you accept the offer yet?" At this point I really wish Tiana would just take the hint and walk away. I wouldn't want Thomas knowing about- well we don't have anything going on, it just seems like, well... I couldn't wrap my mind around what to call Tiana and I. Maybe acquaintances.
Before Thomas could answer Tiana leaned over, looking at me directly in my face. "Why are you being so dry?" She snickered. I fake laughed and then hummed I don't know. It quickly grew silent. "So..." She sung. "Miya's not here today?"
I hear a scoff and one person clearing their throat, my friends are the worst. They make a situation bigger than what it is. I sighed and Desean laughed immediately.
I finally looked at her. "Nah." I murmured. My eyes lingered around her skimpy outfit. A shirt way to small for her, but yet it complemented her body very well. Tiana has a banging body, I thought. Another awkward and slightly annoy silence stood between us. I felt as though her eyes were imagining beyond what I thought they could be imaging about. We stared at each other, and at this very moment I can't help but notice how... Pretty she actually is.
