Kiara

"Honey?"

"Yes, my love?"

I look at Kovu with sad eyes as we walk side by side to the borders. "Do you really think Heri is out there safe?"

Kovu nodded and met his emerald green eyes with my reddish brown ones. "Of course! Why you ask?"

"Because...I'm starting to give up that's why. He's no where to be found. That's a sign that he's not-"

Kovu stopped walking. "Our son is alive Kiara! Don't you ever give up on hope. It's only been one night without him. I'm sure Heri is lost out there some where. We're not going to stop finding him."

"Okay..."

"I promise." Kovu said, while rubbing his black nose up against my furry cheek.

A tear fell from my eye as I nod. Kovu smiled and continue walking again.

"Good. We're almost there to the borders come on!"

I speed up my walking pace anxious to find out if my son is here or any clues.

Heri please be here...

When we arrived at the borders, Kovu admittedly began to sniff the ground for any signs or clues. I start to call out Heri's name hoping he's here alive.

"Heri! Come on son, time to go home!!" I yell.

No response.

"Heri!"

Still no response.

I start to worry for real this time and let out a loud roar hoping he'll hear me.

"Kiara..."

I look over my shoulder. "Huh?"

Kovu's ears fell flat as he looked down with his eyes closed releasing a sad sigh.

"What? What is it??"

Kovu did not respond. So I got up and walked over to him to see what's the problem is. I look down with my eyes widen and gasp.

Blood...

"N-No, what i-is it?" I ask, stuttering.

"Heri's blood. It has his scent all over it. He was here..." Kovu shortly explained.

"No, it can't be his. No!"

Tears start to stream down my face.

Kovu looked at me with tears welling up in his eyes. "Kiara I am so sorry. Our son isn't coming back..."

I fell to the ground sobbing. Kovu wrapped his furry arm around me crying as well.

Who would ever do such a thing to a young Prince?

Not just that, but a child!

"Kovu, Kiara?"

It's my mother calling. Her and father just showed up.

"We didn't find anything at the waterhole. What about you guys?" Father asks.

Kovu stopped crying. He sniff and shook his head at Simba. "Heri is gone Simba...it's over..."

Mother's eyes widen. "What?!"

Father gasps. "What made you say that?"

Kovu pointed down at the blood. "His scent is on the blood. It's obvious that he was hurt or killed. If he's hurt, he's not going to make it out there alone. A predator would get him for sure."

"Oh my god, Kiara I am so-" My mother says, walking up to give me a hug.

I stood up and ran off.

"Kiara, where are you going?" I hear Kovu yell.

I ignore him.

"Kiara!" Father called.

I ignore him too. I just want to be alone. My head is pounding and anger is in my veins. I came across a skinny dead tree and smacked it with my paw, breaking it in half.

I growl then stop running once I made it on top of an grassy hill. I sat down staring up at the morning sky.

"Great Kings why? Why did they take our son away?? He was so innocent. He wouldn't do anything to anger someone! If Heri is with you, please watch over and tell him that mommy and daddy loves him very much. We are so sorry to not be there to save you in time. It's our faults for being bad parents..."

I start to cry again.

"Kiara?"

It's Kovu.

"Please, go away..."

"Kiara please, let me stay." He begs, "I know how you feel right now. Pain right?"

"It's not just that Kovu." I said with a frown.

He nods and sit beside me close. "I know."

I rest my head on his shoulder sniffing. "I just don't understand. Who would hurt an innocent child?"

"There's bad animals out there honey. They don't care!" Kovu said, growling. "I wish I knew who it was so I can go it and kill them with my teeth!"

I can sense anger as his body tensed up.

"I know honey, calm down. Even if we did that it still wouldn't bring Heri back. He's gone forever Kovu..."

Kovu's ears fell flat sadly.

"How are we going to tell Makosa this?"

"I don't know. Man, he's going to be so heartbroken if we do..."

I look up at him. "We don't have a choice. You know he's going to ask us or my parents once we get home. He deserves to know the truth."

Kovu nodded. "Alright."

Kovu and I sat there on the hill all morning staring up at the sky. We were just so sadden, angry, and depressed about our lost son who we just found out that's dead.

What did we do to deserve this?
