The Talk

Simba

Morning...

It's early morning. The sun's bright rays shone inside the dark cave. I open my ruby red eyes with a yawn. The whole pride is still asleep. I got up with a stretch heading out the cave for a drink.

I walk to the waterhole. Two zebras are there. They scatter away after seeing me come forward. I shake my head.

Must had thought I was about to hunt them...

I lower my body lapping up the cool water with my rough pink tongue.

Very refreshing...

My ears suddenly twitch. I hear a noise behind me. It sounds like heavy paws walking. I turn around seeing Kovu.

Perfect...

The lion who I would like to speak with today...

"Good morning, your majesty!" He greets.

I nod. "Good morning, Kovu. Come sit and join me for a drink."

Kovu takes another step forward and sits beside me. His body tense up. I can sense him feeling nervous.

"Relax, your not in trouble." I said.

Kovu swish his tail from side to side while looking down at his paws. "Look, I know you're upset about me proposing to your daughter. Maybe it isn't the right-"

I cut him off by raising up my paw ordering him to stop speaking.

"Kovu, I am not upset about that. I'm very proud that you want to marry Kiara. I knew this day was going to happen anyway. My wife and I was very prepared! But we weren't prepared on being grandparents."

I frown. Kovu's ears fell flat against his skull.

"I apologize your majesty..."

"Do you know how much responsibility this is going to be?! Kiara isn't ready for Cubs. I just know she's not. She has too much Queen training to go over. We don't have that much time. A cub is going to slow her down and lose focus. It's too early, Kovu. What made you decide to get her pregnant now?"

"It was an accident."

I cross my furry arms and gave him the "Really?" facial expression.

Kovu nodded. "I'm so serious! We weren't expecting to become parents anytime soon. I was shocked as you are when she first told me the news."

I let out a sigh.

"Simba please don't kill me! I'm so sorry!! If you do want to kill me, at least let me say goodbye to my sister first."

"Kovu, I'm not going to kill you."

"What?"

I place a paw on Kovu's shoulder. "I am although still angry at the both of you. But I do have a heart. I'm glad that your deciding to marry her before the cub comes. That's the right step! I will love my grandchild."

Kovu smiled. "Soooo, your not going to kill me?"

I laugh. "No silly!"

"Cool."

"You remind me of when I was your same exact age."

"What happened?"

I look over to the side. "Let's just say, I've done some mistakes too."

Kovu lift a brow. "Such as?"

"Kiara wasn't planned..."

"You got the Queen pregnant on accident?"

"Yep. That's why I can't kill you."

Kovu made a scared look. I laugh punching him gently.

"I'm kidding! But yeah, so it's okay. We all make mistakes and learn from them. It's called life."

"True."

"Just take good care of my daughter, Kovu. Don't let anything hurt her when I'm gone."

Kovu shakes my paw. "I won't Simba, I promise!"

I smile and stood up. "Good, let's go back to Pride Rock. Shall we?"

"We shall."

We both walk back to Pride Rock. Nala and Kiara waited at the top for our return greeting us with hugs.

"How was the talk?" Nala asks me.

"It was alright. Kovu seems to understand everything that's about to come to him. I just hope it's a lesson." I said, nuzzling her.

I watch Kovu follow behind Kiara inside the cave.

Everything is going to be okay I hope...
