Orion's Pov
It's been a year. I have completely given up hope. Autumn was three now. August was a year. He was just now starting to walk. I got his first steps on a video camera. He looked a lot like Arie. Autumn stopped asking about Arie. I guess she either forgot, or she already knew the answer. It was always the same answer. She'll be back.
I wanted her to have hope because she needed it. She needed to know that I wasn't always this way. I wasn't always tired and mean. I didn't always sit in a dark room by myself for hours. I loved someone and she shattered my heart. That's why Autumn. That's why.
"Maybe you should get rid of the necklace," my shrink said. I just stared at her then looked down at the half of a heart tucked into my shirt.
"No, she said she was wearing the same necklace. The other half. This connects me to her. It's the only thing that connects me to her," I said. She nodded and wrote something in her book.
"Why do you think she left Orion?" She asked. I looked at the necklace then tucked it back into my shirt.
"She said she needed time," I murmured under my breath. She wrote something else in the notebook.
"She said a few days to a few weeks. She never said a month and she never said a year," she said. I nodded at her.
"My daughter. It's her bedtime. I have to go," I got out the chair and walked out before she could say anything to me.
I walked through the pack to the pack house. I moved my chair in front of the window and sat.
"Star," I got up when I heard Autumns voice from the kitchen. West promised he would put her in the bed. What happened?
I walked into the kitchen and froze. She was sitting there, holding Autumn, like nothing changed.
"Orion," she put Autumn down in the chair and got up. She picked the half heart necklace from her shirt as she was walking me.
I just stared at her like she was the ghost from Christmas past.
I took my necklace from my shirt and looked up at her again. She tried to kiss me. I turned so she hit my cheek. It hurt me to do it. I hated it.
"I'm sorry, I don't know you," I whispered. She pulled away and stared at me. She then turned to Holly at the door who had her arms crossed.
"Don't do this Ryan," she turned to look at Autumn who was eating cookies.
"What am I doing?" I asked. I put my hands in my pockets.
"You're acting like you don't know me. You know me," she wrapped her arms around me. I just kept staring at her.
"I don't know anymore. You left for a year. I don't know you," I pulled away from her and backed into the wall.
"Did you not have hope that'd I'd come back?" She asked. I looked at Autumn.
"No, I lost hope a long time ago. I had faith that maybe you would be a good mother and come back. I had faith that maybe you would come back to love me. I don't know," I said. I looked at the ground. She just put her hands in her pockets.
"You took off your wedding ring," she said quietly. I looked down at my hand.
"My shrink said it would help me get over you."
"Are you over me?" She asked. I shook my head no,"can we please talk, in your room, alone?"
"Autumn, it's bed time. I'll be there to read you a story in a little bit," she got out her chair and walked up the stairs.
