Well, Joey, today is the day! You're finally going to do it! I stared down at the supplies in front of me. Am I really about to do this? I'd watched so many tutorials online but it seemed totally different in real life. Maybe I should just get it done professionally... But I don't want to spend a bunch of money for something I don't like... I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed. My hair was still damp from the quick shower I'd just had. I had a ragged, old towel wrapped around my shoulders, held closed with a peg. I carefully reached over and grabbed the gloves that came with the hair dye, slipping them on. After reading over the instructions for the fifth time that hour I grabbed the bottles of chemicals and poured them into the separate container and shook it to combine the colour. It took me a few breathless moments to put the first drop of dye into my hair. From there I just went for it. I coated all of my hair with the dye and smiled at the aftermath. There was blue on the towel, on my face and ears, all over the gloves and there were even a few drops on the counter! I read the box and it said to leave it for fifteen minutes before washing it out. Thank god, I could finally get out of that room! The smell of the dye was almost suffocating me as it hung thickly in the air. I walked out of the bathroom and almost knocked Tyler over in the process.
"Whoa, hey there Joey!" Tyler scoffed and weaved around me. "Ohh, finally trying the new hair dye, huh?"
"Yeah, what do you think?" I asked, posing like a model. I was internally freaking out, though.
"I think you look like a greased rat," Tyler stated in a very matter-of-fact tone. My jaw dropped, I was definitely not expecting that! "Come talk to me when you've washed the dye out of your hair." And with that, he walked away and down the hallway.
"Little bit savage, don't you think?" I called after him, only hearing a cackle in response. I huffed and walked towards my room. I pulled out my phone and looked at myself in the camera. Man, I kind of do look like a grease rat. I browsed through my social media and looked through my messages. I contemplated messaging Daniel but thought against it. I wouldn't really call him a close friend yet, so I guess it's not really necessary. I also thought about adding this into my vlog, but I wanted it to be a surprise for tomorrow. I let out a sigh before I looked at the time. "Crap, it's been thirty minutes!" I cried and sprinted to the bathroom. Fear gripped my stomach as I started the shower. This shit better not be poison! Oh my god, what if it seeps into my skin! I grabbed the special colour saving shampoo I'd bought and jumped into the cold water, screaming at the shock.
I squirted a little too much shampoo into my hand in the minor panic attack I was having. The water was just starting to get warm as I caked my hair in the new shampoo and furiously scrubbed. The sight of the blue sliding down my body and swirling down into the drain was actually quite calming, almost hypnotic. Well, it was until the water washed soap into my eyes. I let out a cry, my eyes burning. "Are you kidding me?" I growled, grabbing furiously for a towel. That's when I realized I hadn't grabbed myself one. Why does the universe hate me today?
Cold air hit me in the face as the door swung open. "Hey, Joey, are you okay?" I heard Shanes' voice ask.
"Do I look okay?" I tried to look at him, but my eyes were clamped shut. I could hear Shane suppress a snort of laughter, hiding it behind a cough.
"I'll get you a towel, honey." As soon as the door closed I heard Shane start laughing uncontrollably.
"God damn it, Shane, hurry up! My eyes are melting like the Wicked Witch of the West over here!" Shane just laughed harder. "They're melting, MELTING!" I cried and just tipped my face to the running water.
"So, what? Do you want a towel or your ruby slippers, Dorothy?"
"For fuck sake, Shane, it hurts!"
"Don't worry, while I'm there I'll ask the Wizzard of Oz for some pain meds."
"Thank you..." I called and sat down on the floor. A few seconds later Shane walked in and handed me the towel. I wiped the soap and dye from my eyes, wincing when I opened them again. "Thank you Shaney," I said and kissed him on the cheek before ducking back into the water.
"No problem, Dorothy." And with that, he left. I huffed and went back to washing my hair.
I turned the shower off and grabbed the towel Shane had brought me, wrapping it around my waist. My shoulders were still dripping wet but I couldn't wait any longer. Now was the moment of truth, I'd either made a huge mistake or this was the best decision of my life. I took a deep breath and looked in the mirror, gasping at the sight. My hair was a deep blue, almost navy, but that was only because my hair was still saturated. Even still, I could tell that this would turn out amazing. I quickly searched through the draws and grabbed out a hair dryer, plugging it in and starting it. A shiver ran down my back as the hot air hit me.
Once I was satisfied with the feeling of my hair, I looked back into the mirror. The blue was so light it was almost silver. I just smiled and ran out of the room and into the bedroom. I half expected Shane to be in there, but he was nowhere to be found. With a shrug, I quickly dried myself and got dressed before running out into the lounge room. "Shane, Tyler?" I called out, wondering if they were in there. A blonde haired head popped up from the couch, staring at me with wide eyes. Shane looked up from the other side of the couch, a smile crossing his face.
"Lookin' good, honey." Shane chuckled as I walked over.
"So it looks good?" I turned so they could see the back of my hair.
"Yeah, Joey. It looks really nice!" Tyler smiled up at me and patted the couch in the middle of them.
"Oh thank god, I was scared that I'd made a horrible decision." I slumped onto the couch and snuggled up to Shane. Without a word, he started to run his hands through my hair. My heart swelled and I wrapped my arms around his waist.
"Hang on, I'll be right back." Tyler stood up and walked out of the room. There were a few seconds of silence before I heard a phone go off. I didn't have mine with me and that wasn't Shane's ringtone. I looked behind me and saw that Tyler had left his phone behind. Nope, it's probably just a notification. There's no point. What if it's private? Then where would we end up? But, one look couldn't hurt... I lost the battle of will power and slowly grabbed the phone. I opened it and saw a message from Troye.
Troye
I know, I miss sleeping next to you.
My heart wrenched. Those poor guys, they must be hurting something fierce. I could never live away from Shane, that would just kill me. But then again, at least they're talking like they used to. I'm so glad that they've seemingly crossed over that rough patch. I wonder if Troye or Tyler have spoken to Sawyer since the incident. I was given no more time to think about it because the phone was gently lifted from my hands.
"Stop being nosey." Shane shook his head and put the phone back onto the seat beside me.
"Oh, you're no fun."
