Chapter 48

"Hey," I say to Kian as he walks in the door.

"Morning beautiful," he says.

I get up and give him a kiss.

"How was work yesterday?" He asks.

"It was good, same as usual I guess."

"Well that's good. How's Erin doing? I haven't talked to Jc in a couple days."

"She doing good, I talked to her last night."

"That's good. So what do you want to do today?" he asks.

"How's the beach sound? I haven't really been able to go in awhile."

"Yeah, sounds fun."

Kian goes out to his car and grabs his swimming trunks while I change into my bikini.

I choose a salmon pink one with darker pink flowers on it. I put on a cover up over it then slide my flip flops on.

"Ready?" Kian asks as I walk down the steps.

"Yes sir," I say in a playful voice.

We walk out the back door and into the warming air. Now that it's march it's warm but it never gets very hot.

We walk further down the beach and set our towels down.

"So how's your week been? I feel like we don't see each other very much since I've been working," I say.

"It's been good. Kind of boring actually. I liked having you around so much, plus Jc's gone too. He's always busy with Erin, which I completely understand."

"Yeah I know what you mean. It's kind of weird not having Erin living with us anymore," I tell him.

"Well at least I still have you at night and on the weekends," he says pulling me in.

I give him a long kiss. Then pull away.

"I love you," he says through a smile.

"I love yo-" I'm interrupted by the ringing of my phone.

"Hello?" I say answering it.

"Annie! Erin's in labor come to hospital as soon as you can!" Jc says in a panicked voice.

"Are you guys at the hospital already?" I ask.

"Yeah."

"Ok just calm down and breathe. Alright?" I tell him.

"Ok." he slows down a bit and takes a deep breathe.

"I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Ok bye," he says.

I hit the end call button and look at Kian.

"Well sounds like there's a baby on the way," I say.

"Are you serious?" he asks.

"Yeah. Come on we got to get to the hospital."

We quickly grab our things then run back to the house. We change then climb in Kian's car.

On the way my mind wanders. It actually starts to set in that my best friend is having a baby.

Kian pulls into the hospital that Erin told me Copeland would be born at.

"Hi I'm looking for Erin Birkett," I tell the receptionist.

"She's down the hall in the maternity ward. Ask the receptionist down there," she replies.

"Ok thanks."

Kian grabs my hand and we walk down the hall together.

"Hi, could you tell me which room is Erin Birkett's?" I ask.

"What's your name?" The nurse asks.

"Annie Koke."

"And what's yours?" she asks Kian.

"Oh I'm staying out here," he says.

She laughs a little. "It's room 228. It's just down the hall on the right."

"Ok thanks," I say. "I'll be back," I tell Kian.

"Alright, I'll be out here."

I walk down the hallway to room 228 then knock on the door.

Jc opens the door.

"Thank god you're here," he says looking at me.

You can clearly tell he's nervous.

"Woah Jc. Calm down," I say grabbing him by the shoulders. "Just calm down and breathe. Kian's in the waiting room. Just go sit with him for a bit, I'll come and get you if Erin needs anything."

"Are you sure? I don't think I should leave her," he says.

"Jc, it's fine. She's probably going to be in labor for a couple hours. Just relax."

He takes a deep breathe. "Alright. But if she needs absolutely anything come and get me," he says.

"I know."

"Thanks." He gives me a smile then glances back at Erin. He turns back then walks down the hall towards the waiting room.

"Hey," Erin says as I walk in the room.

"Hey. How's it going so far?" I ask.

"Not horrible but it could be better."

"How are the contractions?"

"They're slowly getting worse," she says. "Thanks for getting Jc out of here for a bit, he's been freaking out every time I have a contraction."

"It's no problem. I had Kian come so he's in the waiting room with him. Did you call Ashley?"

"Yeah I had Jc call her. She said she's at some meetup with Connor that's about an hour away so she'll be here as soon as she can," she explains.

"Ok."

About an hour passes and nothings changes. Ashley and Connor get there though. Erin stays in labor for about another three hours until little Copeland is born.

Me, Ashley, Connor, and Kian wait in the waiting room until the nurse tells us we can come in.

We all walk into the room and see a tiny little baby in Erin's arms.

"How much does she weigh?" Ashley asks.

"7 pounds 6 ounces," Jc says beaming.

As we leave the hospital later that night I see the board in the nursery. I read through it and find Copeland.

Kian and I walk out to the car holding hands.

"She's sure cute," Kian says.

"Of course she is," I say.
