Chapter 15

I wake up and look at the clock- 10:00. The first applicant should be here in about 2 hours.

I roll out of bed and wake up Erin. I go back into my room and take a quick shower. I put on a light aqua blue sun dress. I walk back to the bathroom then blow my hair dry and straighten it. Next I carefully apply my makeup.

I look at my reflection in the full body mirror. I notice my eyes. The dark circles that were once there have disappeared.

My phone lights up with a text from the first applicant (Alyson).

Alyson- I'm on the way! I should be there in about 5 minutes!

Me- Sounds great!

I check the time again noting in my mind that it's 12:00.

"Alyson's almost here," I say popping my head into Erin's room.

"Ok I'll be down in a second," she replies. I walk down the steps and into the kitchen. I grab a glass of water then sit down on the couch.

The doorbell rings and I pull myself up from the couch. I swing the door open as Erin makes her way down the steps.

"Hi I'm Annie," I say as I shake Alyson's hand.

"Hi I'm Alyson, nice to meet you," she says back with a smile.

"Come on in." I motion for her to take a seat at the kitchen table.

"Hi I'm Erin," Erin greets.

"Hi!" Alyson shoots back.

"So tell us about yourself," Erin says.
The interview carries on nothing exiting happens just some small talk. We take her around the house showing her the room that would be hers.

"Bye!" She says as she walks out the door. I close the door behind her.

"So what'd you think of her?" I ask Erin.

"She was way to peppy. Everything she said sounded like it should've had an exclamation point behind it."

"So that's a no for Alyson I'm guessing?" I question.

"Yes that is a definite no," she replies.

"Who's up next?" Erin asks.

"Um it was supposed to be some girl named Ashley but she changed to 3:00 so next is Julia."

I check the clock noticing it's 1:58. Julia should be here any minute.

"So how was your date with Jc last night?" I ask Erin.

"It was amazing! He took me to this really nice restaurant in Hollywood. It was so good. After that we went to the Hollywood sign and he kissed me under the stars." She shows a daydreamed expression on her face.

"Awww, how cute!" I exclaim.

"I know! He is just the sweetest thing ever." Just as Erin finishes her sentence the doorbell rings.

I get out of my chair and open the door. A tall girl with pitch black dark hair, pale skin, and all black clothes stands at the door.

"Hi. You must be Julia, I'm Annie." I take her into the kitchen and show her, her seat.

"Hi I'm Erin." Erin says with a smile. Julia gives her a look that could kill. Everything about this girl gives off a negative hatred vibe. No way is she going to be our roommate.

"So what are you like?" Erin asks.

Julia begins to talk. The interview lasts for only about 20 minutes. Julia ends up leaving without even seeing the rest of the house.

"Well she was..." I pause.

"Interesting?" Erin says with a curious look.

"Yeah. Sure, we'll go with that," I laugh.

"Well she's a no. This Ashley girl better be good."

"I know. If we don't find a roommate we could loose the house." I say.

"Don't remind me. Just the thought of having to leave this place makes me want to cry. We have so much here already. This is our dream and we could possibly loose it."

"I know. Ashley please be good!" I yell.

The doorbell rings so I open the door. I instantly stop and just look at her when I notice it's Ashley or as I came to know her Connor's ex girlfriend.

"You're the Ashley?" I ask in shock.

"Yeah. Sorry I didn't tell you. I applied for this roommate thing like a few weeks ago and I forgot the address that it said. When Connor told me your address I just didn't even realize it was the same."

"It's fine. Come on in," I say motioning her into the kitchen. "Erin can I talk to you in the living room?"

"Yeah," she says to me. "We'll be back in a second," she says to Ashley.

"Our dream of staying in California rests in the hands of the girl who ruined your relationship?" Erin whispers to me.

"Don't say she ruined my relationship. Connor was the one who lied to me," I whisper back.

"Well would you be fine living with her or would it be weird?"

"I mean I do think it would be weird the first week or so but she seems like a nice person," I whisper to Erin.

"Ok then." We walk back to the kitchen and take our seats.

"Sorry about that," I say giving her a smile.

"So tell us about yourself," Erin says to Ashley. The interview goes on for a good hour and a half. Almost everything Ashley says at least one of us have in common with her. I have to admit she's the perfect roommate. We show her the rest of the house.

"So how would you like living here?" Erin asks.

"It'd be amazing!" She says. "I doubt I'll be able to though considering what happened."

"Don't worry about that. It wasn't your fault Connor and I broke up."

"Really?" She asks.

"Yeah. So you want to live here?"

"Of course, but what about the other applicants wouldn't you want to think about it?" she asks.

"Noooo. The first girl was way to happy and the other one was well, not happy enough," Erin says with a laugh.

"So I seriously get to live here!?" she exclaims.

"Yup!" Erin and I both say back to her.

Mine and Erin's California dream shall continue and we get to spend it with another amazing person.
