Before even entering the car, Avi had asked many questions. What if she didn't want to leave with them, what if the woman in charge didn't allow them to adopt the child? etc. Tim did everything to calm him down, assuring him that there wouldn't be any problems approaching anytime soon. With that the rest of the ride was silent, Avi thought about Ellie-Grace and Tim thought about his soon to be husband.

Standing in front of the door Avi took a deep breath. He was a mess, emotionally. Sure, the joy that he would take home his very own daughter was overwhelming to him but he couldn't blend out the doubts which were circulating in his mind. Tim took his hand and kissed Avi's forehead.

"No worries, sweetheart."

With his big green eyes Avi stared up to him, a slight smile appearing on his face.

"How do you do it?"

"Do what?"

The door opened and caught both of their attention, still Avi answered in a whisper.

"You always manage to make me feel safe and secure."

"That's my job, hun."

Caressing Avi's hand with his thumb, Tim looked over to the door where the woman was waiting for them to decide wether they wanted to enter or leave. She gestured for them to walk past her and Tim nodded, pulling Avi with him carefully. The orphanage was painted in bright colours, butterflies and flowers made out of cardboard decorated each and every hall and room. It was different than what they had expected. From the outside it seemed all so grey and lifeless, but the inside was beautiful..

"Take a seat."

The office was in the far back, stylish with a few paintings, made by the children, hanging on the wall. The woman's features looked less stern but still stressed now, than the last time they had seen her.

"Please, tell me how I can help you."

She looked over to Tim first, then watched Avi hiding his hands in his pockets. Taking that as a signal Tim took over the speaking.

"We would love to adopt one of your children and if we may, we already found the one."

"Are you both married?"

"Not yet but.."

The woman pushed her chair back and stood up, not looking at Tim anymore. He stopped talking and observed her. Did he say something wrong? The woman turned around and took a few files out of the shelf behind her, humming a few words while searching through the documents. Tim raised an eyebrow and eyed Avi who was doing the same.

"You don't have to be married necessarily, still it would pay up for a better legal and financial protection of the whole family. Anyway, there are a few documents you have to sign, the child has to meet you before you can adopt it. There will be a caretaker who comes twice a week just to make sure that everything is fine within the household. Not for long but for about a month."

Tim made sure not to forget any of the information since Avi was too distracted. He had seen a picture of Ellie-Grace on the wall and proceeded to stare at her while the two other adults kept on going with the adoption stuff. He snapped back when he heard the name though.

"Ellie-Grace? Yes she is a wonderful child, still she needs a while before warming up to new people. Why her, if I'm allowed to ask?"

Avi was quiet the entire time but now, he felt, he could actually throw in a few of his own words.

"I'm her father."

His voice wasn't confident but rather scared. He knew that the woman would ask him a specific queation right...now.

"And why didn't you get full custody when the mother disappeared?"

Sinking back into his mindset Avi became really quiet. His eyes showed that he was absent and not available for any more questions regarding that subject.

"The mother lied, about having a child, to him. He discovered it just a few days ago."

Somehow she looked like she pitied him and set down the files. Avi gulped loudly and absent minded took Tim's hand.

"Okay listen. There is no reason why I shouldn't allow you to adopt the child, still I would propose that you, Mr. Kaplan, seek a psychologist for the trouble you're having with your past."

"We will take care of that, thank you."

Tim answered and smiled at Avi to make him feel better, the smaller man just nodded and stared at the documents on the table.

"I will go and get her. Please, wait here."

As soon as she was gone Avi began to cry.
