A/N: Oh boy..

His tears fell and fell, loud sobbing emerged from the brunette. His face hidden in the chest of the lover who tried desperately to console him, not knowing why he was crying in the first place. The grip around Avi's upper body became firm and held him in place, that way he would know: Tim would always be there for him. In good times as well as in bad times. Always.

"I-I'm so happy!"

He whisper shouted and earned another kiss on his temple. Avi had fought for long, he had battled the ghosts and monsters in his mind and in the real world. He picked up the sword which grew heavier with every step and bewandered the world only to be defeated by his enemies as the time went by. Then, a soldier in pure silver appeared at the horizon, stretching out his hand, offering help and support. Avi took it, the weight on his shoulders disappeared bit by bit until he himself felt like he could fly at any moment. So carefree and happy.

That was him now. He would be able to take Ellie-Grace home. His very own daughter. He recalled all the nights he had spent crying over her death, the death he had caused. A few days after he moved in with Tim he lined up candles in the shape of a small heart and ignited them, singing a lullaby he had written for his deceased daughter.

If you're scared of the darkness
I will calm your fear

There's a light in the hallway
So you know I'm here

How many times had Tim caught him at the early mornings, still awake with bags under his eyes? The candles blown out, the thin smoke still in the air.

The times of grief would be over once and for all, his new life began when he met Tim but with Ellie-Grace.. his future would become even brighter. He couldn't wait to hold her in his arms without the fence parting them. She would never have to be alone again and he would never have to blame himself over the fake death of his first child.

"I'm glad you are, honey. I can hear he coming down the hall."

Indeed. Little steps mixing with bigger ones echoed in the hall. Even though there were more children in this orphanage they were awfully quiet. Probably because Ellie-Grace was going to be adopted and they had to wait their turn? Avi's heart broke a little at the thought but prayed, hoping that other families would adopt them sooner or later. He let go of Tim and smiled through his tears, Tim wiped them away and pecked his lips.

At that very moment she entered the room and Avi's world stopped.

Her long brown hair put up into a ponytail, a red bow instead of a hair tie. She wore a long red dress and matching shoes, a backpack in her right hand. Avi met her eyes which held the exact same colour as his. Both of them began to smile widely, holding back tears since the decision hasn't been made just yet. The woman holding Ellie-Grace's free hand gestured her to sit down right next to her, then proceeded to scan through the files once more. While Ellie-Grace hid her excitement behind her tiny hands, Avi couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear. Even Tim, who had an arm around his lover to caress his arm, smiled and looked between the child, Avi and the woman who started to read a few things.

"I've given you the information beforehand. I just need your signature here and there."

She pointed at a few fields and gave Avi enough time to read through the papers as well. When he was done signing he passed it on to Tim who completed the papers.

"Now, Ellie, ..."

The woman began, folding her hands onto the table and leaning just a little into the child's direction, she smiled kindly. Avi waited but was secretly very impatient. He couldn't handle the tension, he wanted to hear the rest of the question and Ellie-Grace's answer to that.

"..which family do you like best?"

Avi's face fell and Tim stopped breathing. Another family? Why didn't the woman say anything?! The bearded man looked at the child with so much fear and sadness in his eyes, Ellie-Grace's lip began to tremble.

"W-who's the other f-family?"

Tim stuttered, not sure if the woman was joking and playing games with them. This was certainly not funny at all. He focused on her, how she lifted a few papers and finally found the one she was looking for.

"It is a straight couple, married for about a few weeks."

"T-their name?"

Avi couldn't hear any of the conversation, he was shaking his head repeatedly, tears falling onto the ground. Ellie-Grace sniffed and shrugged. She was torn between the two families although she already knew which one her heart had chosen. She sat down the packpack and stood up, slowly walking towards the crying man and maybe soon to be father. Ellie-Grace lifted a hand and caressed his tear-stained cheeks, mumbling an I love you towards him. That's when he knew that her personal decision had been made and heard the last words of the conversation.

"Lewis-Maldonado."
