Merlin held tightly to the reins of the horse he was riding at a gallop, glancing back at Adam and Bree and Chase every once in a while to make sure everything wasn't gone in chaos. They were being pursued by the patrol, who had recognized them, and they were being shot at.
"Everything all right?" he yelled.
"Yeah!" all three yelled back.
"Barely," Chase added.
"Then we're gonna drive them away,"  Merlin said, steering his horse abruptly off to the side and stopping it, the others following suit.
"What are we doing?" Bree asked. "They'll kill us."
"Not if we scare them off," Merlin replied.
"Can you guys make a show with your bionics enough to get them to turn back?"
"Do we get to hurt people?" Adam asked.
"Only if they try and hurt you first," Merlin said.
"Fine by me," Adam said, dismounting his horse and walking back into the path. Bree sighed and got off of her horse as well, helping Chase down off of Adam's and then carrying him piggyback after Adam.
"This is stupid," she mumbled.
"You're telling me," Chase mumbled back. Adam and Bree stood next to each other, Bree setting Chase down on his feet between them. The guards rode up and made a barrier between them and escape, holding crossbows at their chests.
"Surrender, or be killed," one of them said.
"How about no?" Adam replied, looking down at the horse's hooves, widening his eyes slightly, and launching red beams of light from his eyes that singed the leaves and grass below, making the horses shriek and rear back, knocking their riders off. The guards all scrambled to their feet as their horses bolted, staring at the three in fear and surprise. Suddenly Bree was gone, and then she was back again next to Chase, holding all of the crossbows with a smirk on her face.
"Too slow," she said, giving them a wink as they started backing away. Chase stood up straighter, taking in and letting out a long breath as he raised his hand to the side, a large boulder nearby grumbling slightly before raising into the air with it. A couple of the less brave guards turned tail and ran, the others stood and watched in fear. Chase's face twisted slightly with strain as he moved the boulder to what looked like directly above the guard's heads.
"Run," he said firmly. "Before I drop it." The guards did as they were told, adding some screams of fear along with it. Chase dropped the boulder right ahead of where their heads would've been with a grunt of relief, almost falling backwards if Adam and Bree didn't catch him.
"It worked!" Bree yelled. "But Chase just passed out!" Merlin ran down to them.
"Of course he did," he said. "Lay him down, I'll see if anything's really wrong." Bree and Adam did as they were told. Chase groaned and woke up, wincing instantly and grabbing the back of his neck.
"Take it easy," Merlin said, gently turning him onto his side and taking his hand away, looking at the ugly, swollen wound where Chase's hand had been and trying not to look worried. "Well...I think we might have to somehow sneak into Camelot." Bree and Adam exchanged a look of fear and then looked back at Merlin.
"You're joking," Bree said.
"Nope," Merlin replied, getting up. "Come on. We can plan on the way."
