"What do you mean he's enchanted?" Arthur snapped at Merlin.
"Morgana cast a spell on him and now he's under her control," Merlin elaborated, already tired of the conversation he was having about Chase's fate, the second one in two weeks. "But he hasn't woken up yet, so the spell hasn't been able to take effect."
"She's undoubtedly going to use him to try and overthrow me," Arthur sighed, leaning forwards on his desk. "Is there nothing we can do? Even though I don't much like the whelp myself, Adam and Bree would protect him with their lives and they're two of our best fighters."
"Nothing legal," Merlin said, shaking his head. "Besides keeping him continually unconscious, which we can't do forever."
"We can't use magic," Arthur replied, leaning back and rubbing his face. "That'll only stoop us to her level."
"Is that why you won't accept Adam, Bree and Chase for who they are?" Merlin asked, attracting Arthur's gaze. "You think they'll turn out like Morgana?"
"We can't assume anything," Arthur replied. "But...yes." Merlin nodded and pursed his lips.
"Have you ever stopped to consider that Morgana was the outsider?" Merlin asked. "I mean, just because Morgana's evil doesn't make every other magician evil."
"I can't take that chance," Arthur snapped. "And besides, I was right. The minute Chase wakes up, he's Morgana's pawn. He's dangerous!" Arthur slammed his hands down on his desk and looking down at it, Merlin jumping a little. "I can't let him hurt anyone."
"Look, I know you're scared," Merlin said. "We all are. We'll figure something out." He smiled at Arthur and Arthur sighed, looking up at Merlin as he straightened up.
"Thank you, Merlin," he said, nodding at him. "Now wipe that stupid grin off your face and go give me a report on Chase."
"Right away, sire," Merlin replied, nodding back and then turning and jogging out of the room, heading down towards Gaius's room. Everything was quiet when he got there, since Chase was still knocked out and no one else was bothering to talk.
"What did Arthur say?" Gaius said to Merlin as he walked in.
"He's leaning towards the side we don't want, but I'm trying to convince him otherwise," Merlin replied. "It's going to be hard, though."
"You can do it," Adam said, giving him a smile. "You've got us this far." Bree said nothing, messing with some string and scowling at it.
"Thanks," Merlin said, nodding at Adam. "Ill try my best to bring Chase back, or at least keep him out of trouble. I promise."
