Merlin walked out of the castle to go watch Arthur train, a couple days after Arthur determined that the bionic siblings could stay. Chase was sitting on the sidelines, watching Arthur work with Adam on his form. Bree was sulking nearby Chase in a dress borrowed from Gwen, leaning on Chase's shoulder and head.
"Hello," Merlin said, sitting down next to Chase and looking over at him and Bree. "How's the day going?"
"Miserable," Bree snapped at him, looking over at him. "I hate wearing dresses every day. I can't run in this!"
"You're not supposed to run in it," Chase replied smugly, smirking. "You're a lady. You're supposed to stand around, look pretty, and swoon whenever a boy walks by." Merlin chuckled as Bree turned and glared at him.
"Like hell I will," she snapped, whacking Chase on the shoulder. "I'm gonna go change. I don't care if anyone else cares." She turned and walked off, storming back towards Gwen's cottage. Chase rubbed his shoulder and watched her go.
"Guess that's what's happens when you grow up around three boys," he said.
"She really can't be held down, can she?" Merlin said, also watching her go.
"No she can't," Chase replied. "I mean, she's usually pretty okay, but she usually doesn't have to wear dresses all the time either."
"What do girls wear where you're from?" Merlin asked, looking over at him.
"Super tight pants and tank tops," Chase said.
"Really?" Merlin replied, wrinkling up his nose. "Clothing styles are very different where you're from."
"Yes, they are," Chase said, nodding. "They're a lot more comfortable, though."
"Huh," Merlin said. "Well, it is what it is." He looked back over at Arthur and Adam, Chase doing the same.
"Adam's doing well," Merlin said. "Arthur's gonna want to make him a knight."
"I have to admit, that'd be pretty cool," Chase replied, nodding. "Although id be really jealous."
"You could be a knight too," Merlin said, nudging him. "If you tried."
"No," Chase said, shaking his head. "Arthur doesn't trust me. I've almost killed him a couple times, remember?"
"Well, earn his trust," Merlin said.
"How?" Chase said, looking over at him and shrugging. "I can't do anything."
"You're a genius," Merlin replied, smiling at him. "You can do everything." Chase smiled a little back.
"I wish I could," he said, looking back at Adam and Arthur. "I'm no good with anything...physical."
"You beat Leon," Merlin replied. "That's no small feat."
"Well, yeah, but Arthur's better," Chase said. "The only way to win his respect is to beat him, and I don't think I can."
"Well, the only way to know is to try," Merlin replied with a shrug.
"Do...do you think I could use a staff instead of a sword?" Chase asked, looking over at him. "I'm better with a staff."
"I dunno," Merlin said with a shrug. "Go ask."
"What?!" Chase said, giving Merlin a surprised look. "No way! I mean, uh, nope." He blushed and crossed his arms peevishly. "I'd rather just use a sword." Merlin laughed at Chase's discomfort.
"He's not that mean," Merlin said.
"Still," Chase whined. "I really don't like talking to him."
"And I'm back," Bree said, walking over by them in boy's clothes, her braid twisted into a bun. "This is MUCH more comfortable."
"You look so boyish," Merlin commented, looking over at her. "It's not a bad look, but still."
"I liked you better in a dress," Chase said, nodding and then flinching when Bree whacked him on the shoulder again.
"No one asked you, Chase," she snapped.
"You should go throw on some chain mail and go duel Arthur," Merlin suggested.
"Nah," she said, shaking her head. "I'll leave it to the boys to beat each other up. Cmon, Chase. Let's go train a little." Merlin couldn't help but let out a laugh as Bree walked off, Chase glaring at Bree as she left.
"Take it back!" Chase yelled, jumping to his feet and running after her. Merlin shook his head and got up, walking after them to make sure they didn't hurt each other.
