It had been a week since Morgana last attacked, and the tense cloud that covered Camelot was slowly starting to lift. Maybe Morgana was gone, at least for a while. Maybe they had scared her off. One thing was for sure, and that was Arthur was much more prepared for her next attack. He had a plan this time, and knew a bit more of what he was doing. Merlin, among his chores and generally making sure Arthur wasn't doing anything stupid, monitored Bree and Adam to make sure they were all right. Bree spent most of her time training with other nights, mostly Gwaine, whom she had made a bond with and was one of the few people she'd talk to. Adam helped Merlin out with his chores when he didn't have anything better to do and went down to the tavern and arm-wrestled people, winning every time and earning himself some extra money, which he generally used to buy food. It was a particularly mundane day, and everyone seemed bored.
"Arthur," Merlin said that afternoon as he was polishing armor.
"Yes?" Arthur replied, reviewing his battle plans for the eight hundredth time.
"Do you believe there are other worlds?" Merlin asked. Arthur made a face and looked up at his friend.
"Where did that come from?" he asked.
"Well, I was just thinking that if Adam, Bree and Chase did come from another world, then we could get help to beat Morgana if we could access it," Merlin explained, looking back at Arthur.
"Huh," Arthur said, nodding. "That wouldn't be completely stupid if we could get to their other world. We don't even know if it exists." He shrugged. "At least you tried, Merlin." He gave Merlin a curt nod before looking down at his plans again. Merlin sighed and went back to polishing armor.
"It was just a suggestion," he mumbled.
"What?" Arthur said.
"Nothing," Merlin replied. Someone knocked on the door and both men looked up.
"Come in," Arthur said. Adam walked into the room, looking worried.
"I can't find Bree," he said.
"Did you check with Gwaine?" Merlin asked, not sounding concerned because this happened most every day.
"Yeah," Adam replied. "I actually remembered this time, and she wasn't there. Gwaine's checking Gaius's room and the armory."
"Well, I'm sure she's fine," Arthur said. "She can handle herself well."
"I'm just worried that Morgana got her too," Adam replied.
"We'll find her," Merlin said, nodding at him. "Don't worry. Just keep looking, I'm sure she's around here somewhere. Don't forget to check in with Gwaine too." Adam nodded back.
"Thanks," he said, turning and running down the hallway.
"Should we send a patrol to look for her?" Merlin asked, looking over at Arthur.
"There's no point," Arthur said, looking back at him. "If she's gone, she's gone. She's too fast for us. If she's left, we just have to hope she comes back." Merlin nodded before turning back to polishing the armor. "Merlin." Merlin looked up at Arthur. "We'll find her. And get Chase back. I promise." Merlin nodded again and gave Arthur a small smile before going back to polishing again. Arthur watched him for a couple seconds before going back to his battle plans, keeping in mind the personal losses others would take if they lost this time.
