Merlin sat at Chase's side, monitoring him and keeping him cool. Adam and Bree sat on Chase's other side, watching and nursing battle wounds.
"I think you all did wonderfully," Merlin said after a while, breaking the silence that hung over the room. "I don't see any reason for Arthur not to let you stay."
"Well, I lost," Adam said slowly, looking sort of guilty. "Doesn't that ruin it?"
"Honor is not based on winning," Merlin replied. "It's based on how you performed in battle, and you all performed admirably."
"I hope Arthur thinks so," Bree said, holding a poultice to her black eye. "Or we're sort of doomed."
"If he doesn't, I'll talk to him," Merlin said firmly. "I'm not letting anything bad happen to you guys anymore."
"Thanks, Merlin," Adam said with a smile. "We appreciate it."
"No problem," Merlin replied, smiling back. Chase groaned, starting to come to.
"What happened?" he asked, rubbing his face. "Did I win?"
"Yeah," Merlin said, leaning back to give him room. "You did great."
"Not as good as me, though," Bree said haughtily, smirking down at him. "But you did better than Adam."
"Hey!" Adam protested, glaring at her.
"Guys," Merlin said threateningly, and they shut up.
"That's good," Chase mumbled, lowering his hands and sitting up. "Okay. That's a headache." He grimaced and set the heel of his hand against his head. "Ow."
"It'll go away," Merlin said, rubbing his shoulder. "Just take it easy."
"He got off really easy compared to us," Adam mumbled.
"I'd rather have a black eye than a headache," Bree replied, looking over at him. Adam tilted his head from side to side in agreement. Someone knocked on the door and they all looked over at it.
"Come on in," Merlin said. Leon opened the door, stepping slightly into the room.
"The King wishes to see you in the main hall," he said. "Oh, and it's good to see you awake, Chase. You fought well."
"Thanks," Chase said, nodding at him. "You did too."
"We'll be right there," Merlin said. "Thanks, Leon." Leon nodded and walked back out of the room. "Well, guess Arthur's made his decision," Merlin continued, getting up. "Let's get going."
"Okay," Bree said, getting up and helping Adam to his feet, heading towards the door. "Guess we're getting to face our fate."
"I think we'll be fine," Adam said positively, following her.
"I wish I had your positivity," Chase mumbled, getting up and walking after them.
"Adam's right," Merlin said, following them out. "Arthur's got a good heart. He wouldn't just leave you guys to fend for yourselves."
