Merlin pored over his book of spells, trying to figure out how to reverse the effects of Morgana's spell. Bree and Adam stood watching Chase, who was awake and chained up as much as physically possible, with shackles around his neck, wrists, and ankles and chains binding his limbs to his body and his body to the floor.
"Do you think he's in there?" Adam asked, getting a look from Bree.
"Well, yeah, he's in there," Bree said. "He's chained up."
"No, I meant something else," Adam replied. "I don't know how to explain it."
"You're wondering if he's completely controlled by Morgana," Merlin mumbled. "If his character and personality are still even in his mind."
"That's pretty much it," Adam said, nodding at Merlin.
"Oh," Bree said sort of sadly, looking back over at Chase. "I think he's still there, and he'll stay there, even if Morgana controls him. It's his body. He controls it, most of the time."
"What do you mean, most of the time?" Merlin said, looking over at her.
"Well, Chase has an alternate personality named Spike," Adam explained. "He comes out whenever Chase is mad, or embarrassed. Mostly embarrassed."
"He destroys everything in his path and doesn't give Chase back until he's calmed down," Bree added. "And he's very creative with his insults."
"Do you think we could bring a Spike out while Morgana has control over him?" Merlin asked.
"Uh..." Adam said, looking over at Bree.
"Don't look at me," Bree said with a shrug. "I don't know. I don't think it'd work, though. Spike is a part of Chase." Merlin sighed and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his eyes.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled. "I've looked through this book six times at least and I can't find anything that'll help."
"It's all right," Adam said. "You tried your best. It's not like any of us could've done anything to save him anyways."
"I could've stayed," Bree mumbled. "I could've brought him with me. I could've done something more."
"You did all you could," Merlin said firmly. "The only person who's at fault here is Morgana." Bree sighed, staring at Chase.
"I can't fight my little brother," she said, shaking her head. "Not like this."
"I doubt he can get out of that," Adam said. "I mean, you know he's got muscles like wet noodles."
"Adam's right," Merlin said. "Neither of you will have to fight him." Suddenly the chains rattled and everyone looked over at Chase as he stirred in his bonds, looking up at them with eyes glowing green.
"You shouldn't underestimate me," he said in a voice that was not quite his own and not quite Morgana's either. "Together we have power no one can defeat."
"That is so creepy," Adam said, taking a couple cautious steps back.
"You can't escape," Merlin said, getting up and walking over between Adam and Bree.
"Watch me," Chase snarled, his palms turning to face the chains around his ankles and legs before they exploded a couple seconds later, enabling him to kick them off. Merlin, Bree and Adam all gasped in surprise.
"How did you do that?" Bree asked.
"Molecular kinesis isn't just for moving things around," Chase said, more him than Morgana that time. "It can also blow things up."
"Im going to warn Arthur!" Merlin yelled, turning and running off.
"Hurry!" Adam yelled as Chase exploded the chains keeping him pinned to the floor. Merlin sprinted through the castle and into the great hall, where Arthur was making plans to find Morgana.
"Arthur!" he yelled. "He's escaping!"
"Everyone, to the dungeons," Arthur commanded, getting up and drawing his sword, the knights around him following suit as he ran out of the room after Merlin. By the time they reached the dungeons, Chase was standing in front of Morgana with his energy staff in his hand, Bree and Adam splayed out on the ground unconscious.
"Hello, Arthur," both of them said in unison. "Are you ready to die?"
"Morgana, let the boy go," Arthur replied. "It's me you want, not him."
"I've taken a certain liking to him," Morgana said, Chase staying silent as she stroked his hair. "I'm going to keep him." Merlin bristled angrily and clenched his hands into fists. Arthur noticed and took a mental note of that.
"You can't keep him!" Gwaine yelled. "He's not a pet, he's a human."
"Well, who says I can't?" Morgana said. "He has no parents to speak of, and his siblings are less than worthy of taking care of him."
"He has a father!" Merlin blurted out. Everyone in the room looked over at him. Merlin felt a little awkward but continued anyways. "And a stepmother, and they're both going to want him back!"
"Well, it's not like I can send him home," Morgana said. "No one knows how. I'm doing him a favor. Now, Chase," she continued, looking down at him, "destroy Arthur." Chase nodded at her and let his staff lose form before holding up his hand, nothing happening for a couple seconds. Suddenly, Arthur dropped his sword with a clang and started gasping for air, collapsing onto his hands and knees.
"Arthur!" Merlin cried out, kneeling down beside him.
"Attack!" Gwaine yelled, the rest of the knights following suit as they rushed forwards at Morgana and Chase. A few minutes of chaos ensued with blood and yelling and many unknowns, when suddenly it all stopped.
"What happened?" Gwaine asked, looking around in confusion. Bree and Adam sat up, finally awake.
"Morgana," Arthur said hoarsely, recovering from Chase's internal attack. "Where is she?"
"Gone, sire," Leon replied, sheathing his sword. "Vanished." Arthur sighed, rubbing his face.
"Did she take Chase?" he asked.
"Yes," Leon added slowly. "She did."
"She took him?" Bree said, standing up. "Well, we have to go get him back!"
"We can't," Arthur said. "Not right now. We need to recover. Many men were injured during the battle."
"Including you," Merlin said. "We'll find him, Bree. Don't worry. We just need to wait a bit so we can go at her full force and be sure to get Chase back." Bree nodded response and sighed, leaning back against the wall and rubbing her face.
"We really screwed up this time, didn't we?" she said.
"Yeah, we sort of did," Adam replied, nodding and getting a dirty look from Bree.
"Don't worry, we'll fix it," Arthur said, standing up and almost falling sideways onto Merlin, who stood up immediately afterwards to steady him. "Get all the wounded to Gaius, and everyone else get some rest. We need to be ready if Morgana strikes again."
