I watched all the color drain from Lucy's face and I instantly become worried.
"What's wrong, love?" I spoke softly, disliking how upset she seemed. Whatever text she received must really be bothering her.
Lucy gulped nervously and showed me her phone without saying a word. My eyes widened and my expression and feeling matched with Lucy's.
"Shit," I cursed, the feeling of fear taking its course throughout my body. "Who the hell would send this?"
"I don't know," Lucy shrugged, taking in a sharp breath. "But more importantly, who would want to expose us?"
I pondered for a moment, trying to think if we had made any enemies along the journey of this master plan.
"Let's think about the people who actually know about the secret," I suggested. "Marina?"
Lucy shook her head immediately in defense of her best friend. "No, she definitely wouldn't do this... She knows how important it is and she did help us a lot in times. She wouldn't do this, plus, it's an unknown number."
"I guess that makes sense," I nodded. "What about..."
I trailed off, not wanting to say the name that repeated over and over in my head.
"Ashton?" Lucy spoke.
I shook my head at the defense of my own best friend. "No, he wouldn't..."
"I don't have his number," she says, biting her bottom lip. "I know there are great chances but..."
I sighed. "Fine, let's go ask him."
We walk into the living room where Ashton and Marina are sitting on the couch watching Family Feud.
"I'm telling you," Marina spoke to Ashton. "I would so win this shit."
Ashton laughed. "Don't you kind of need a family for this?"
"My family aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer," Marina stated, smiling. "Therefore I will wait for special technology to exist so I can clone myself. Then I will go on the show."
"But-" Ashton began.
"Don't argue with her, mate," I say, startling the two on the couch. "You'll end up questioning your existence by the time it's over."
Ashton turned to us. "Hey guys. What's up?"
Marina raised her eyebrow. "Shouldn't you be in room being careful that you don't make any babies?"
Lucy blushes and shook her head. "Um, so I got this text and..."
I took a deep breath. "And we were wondering if you sent this, Ashton."
Ashton stood up and walked over, taking the phone in his hands. He carefully read the text and his eyes widened in shock.
"Wow, I only joined the team for like one day and we're already getting fucked over," he breathes out.
"You didn't answer the question, Ashton Irwin," Marina says, narrowing her eyes at him. "Did you send the text?"
He shook his head profusely. "Why the hell would I do that shit? Luke is my best friend and I don't even have Lucy's number!"
I turned to Lucy. "See?"
Her cheeks reddened in embarrassment. "Sorry for accusing you, Ash. We just didn't want to overlook all possible suspects."
Ashton nodded. "I understand. So, who else do you know who might be out to get you?"
I thought for a moment, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Why the hell haven't I thought of it sooner?
