1 Week Later

It had been just over one week, one week of torment for Jana. She was becoming unbridled. Her temper was flaring and soon she wouldn't be able to control it.

They had disrespected nearly every aspect of her life. They had stopped her from bathing in daylight hours. Forcing her to shower when they were sleeping if she wanted to keep the violence at bay.

Violence was brewing though, there was only so much she would take and soon they would escalate their petty antics.

They isolated her from the camp fire when stopping her from eating failed to work. It didn't bother her because she could hunt for herself and she had already built herself a cock pit long before they had tried that.

They had put bugs in her bed when she was sleeping and a snake in her room during the day. She had come back to see the serpents body stretching, lengthening out as it began preparing for a meal. She had lobbed the damn things head off and burnt it for dinner. Then she had watched as they ate her spit riddled, burnt snake without realising she had made it. It had been therapeutic to watch.

All her anger had been transferred into the body of the snake when she had been cooking it - any negative feeling leaving her as she watched them none the wiser. Well she had thought it did but they continued pestering. Some females were becoming violent, though they never outright attacked her. They stuck their feet out to trip her, barged past her. Threw things at her back and spat near her when she walked.

They made life for her difficult but she didn't blow up. Not yet,she was waiting until they took it too far. She wasn't too sure what would be the breaking point for her but she was always prepared.

She carried her knives with her everywhere she went and every afternoon she sat outside her tent on a stool and sharpened her blades. She wanted them to see what she was packing. Made them visualise what she would do.

And those were just her smaller knives. She sharpened the big one inside, she was keeping it a secret for them. So they would have a little surprise when they took things too far.

They were waiting for her to snap but she hadn't yet. She was waiting. Just waiting for the perfect opportunity for her to climb the ranks and they gave it to her.

The day had been one of the better ones, there had been no bugs in her bed. No snakes or any other creature. Her belongings were where she left them and they had even left her the tiniest pieces of breakfast. She should have known they were planning something but she had been too happy to just have a few moments to relax in the pool.

She had missed the natural rocking of the water. Her and Zosia had made a whole bonding day in the pools. It had been fun and a small flashback to her youth when she would play in the lake with the twins. The memory of her siblings made her heart hurt. She regretted how things were left. It hurt her to know that they were now estranged.

Her family had been there for her all her life and now she was here in this foreign place with no one but this little girl with beautiful eyes. As much as Jana ached to go home and see them, she knew she had a purpose here now.

Zosia needed her because if Jana wasn't here for her then who would be. Her dad was away jeopardising his life for some finely veiled revenge and her aunty was absent most of the time.
