My jagged breath was all I could hear in the silence of Damon's room after the incident. He took me to his house and left me to sleep in his room, but I couldn't sleep. My face was covered in tears no matter how I tried to close my eyes and sleep. The images of Dr. Martin's death played over and over in my head. How he took my arm and it was like I vanished. How I felt my control slip and the woman in my refection consume me. How I slammed into his cheats breaking bones and ripping flesh, griping his still beating heart and pulling it free. I shuttered just thinking about it. "Knock knock." Damon says as he opened the door. "How are you feeling?" He asks setting down a cup of water on the table next to me. "Much better." He chuckled for a moment and then got serious. "I don't want to be a downer, but we have to talk about what happened." He sits down on the other side of the bed and faces me, his expression very calm but serious. "I've been doing my own research with the help of Rick and other information I've gathered from my time with Elijah and Katherine. Things that they told me, things that they have called me. Even Rose called me it once before she died." I began carefully. "There is this legend that is about a woman who was close to Klaus." I began and he nods. I took out the old book that Katherine showed me. As I flipped through the pages I point at a hand drawn picture from the twelfth century it showed a transition, a baby, a child, an adolescent then, a monster being eaten away by what seemed like running water. "The curse will be a curse unless it is broken and the beast is unleashed." I read out loud. "Half-blood drinker, half man eater, half servant of nature. Tied to the doppelganger by birth. As human it is safe. In death it will shed blood and all humanity will weep and wither." I paused and looked to Damon as he started to understand what it was about. I could see the words "Tied to the doppelganger by birth." Running through his mind. Tied to by birth meaning a sister, a twin, me. "A steak to the heart and we shall be saved. If not let the witches wrath do what must be done." I closed my eyes taking in known and unknown information. "I've been having these visions, seeing things weird things." I began and he looked at me confused. "The first time I saw you at the Lockwoods I had a vision of you and Kasandra from 1864. I didn't know who you or her were but I saw you." I said with tears glazing my eyes. "What are you trying to say?" He asked. "I started seeing this woman in my reflections everywhere I go. In the mirror, in other people's eyes, in beer bottles. She's always there. She was there in the mirror when Dr. Martin attacked me. He whispered something in my ear and then it was like she jumped inside of me. She took control of me. When I had that vision in class it was of her and Klaus. Only it wasn't her entirely, it was me." I began to tell him. "No, no. This can't be you." He argued putting the book aside. "I've had more than one vision of her Damon. I keep seeing more and more memories every night, in each one of them I'm with him, Klaus." I said as a tear slipped from my eye. "You think that you have lived other lives? It's not possible. Kasandra-" He went to argue. "I don't think she died in 1864 Damon." I said clearly as I pulled out the book back into my lap and opens it. "Look here." I told him as I opened to the last entry in the book. "This is her last entry and it's dated days after her death." I showed him. "It is done, my life here as Kasandra is finished and I am to return to New Orleans to my home where I fear I am needed now more than ever. My only regret is leaving my Damon behind. Perhaps one day, perhaps in another life I will return to him..." I trailed off as I closed the book. "She faked her death just like Kath-" "Just like me." Katherine said with a smirk in the door way. "You knew?" I asked her. "Of course. Kasandra, or more formally known as Thalia was my friend. I know for a fact she didn't die until 1920." Katherine smirked. "How was she killed and why did she look just like you?" Damon asked worried. "She was murdered by a vampire hunter." Katherine told us clearly and I raised and eyebrow at her. "But?" Damon asked. "She was a doppelgänger Damon. She turned nearly five hundred years before me. She posed as my sister and helped me in return for the moonstone and when I faked my death I gave George Lockwood the stone and went on my way. I knew she went back south afterwards but I know she was killed in 1920. But I also know she was reborn in 1922 as a new human doppelgänger and died on her eighteenth birthday just as she has done now every lifetime since her death in the twenties." Katherine tempted. "How?" Damon asked carefully. "Just as you are going to die, Alina. She had visions that made her crazy and her human body broke down. Sometimes she died because her body couldn't contain the magic but most of the time she killed herself." Katherine said in a cold tone.
