Glenn offered to fetch me to Zen's house after school. On the way there, I told him my confusion and trapped feelings. He just shrugged and smiled at me. He seems to know something I don't.
He decided to wait for me in his car while I went in alone. I knocked and a moment later, the door opens. It was Zen's mother.
"Hi, Mrs Charles. Is Zen at home? He hasn't been to school for two days, he did not reply to my messages and I'm starting to worry about him."
The moment she realised it was me, she overjoyed.
"Thank goodness Harley you're here! For the past two days, Zen has always been hiding in his room. He does not want to eat or drink, it's the 2nd day. I'm worried but he doesn't want to talk to anyone. We, as parents, can't approach him. You came at the right time."
"But he doesn't want to reply my messages either, I'll see what I can do Mrs Charles." The best I can do is to smile at her, to make her feel better. I can't guarantee what he will do or reply.
I went to his door and knocked. No reply. No sound can be heard from his room either. "Zen? It's me, Harley. Do you want to talk?"
"Go away. Leave me alone."
"You can't hide in there forever. I will always be your listening ear. Please talk to me."
There was silence at both ends. Until the door opened. He pulled me into his dark, curtained room and locked the door.
"You should at least open up your curtains." I couldn't see his face, it was too dark. I can't even locate where the windows are. The room has this strong manly smell, it was suffocating me.
"No, do not open the curtains or switch on the lights. If you do, I will move to another town. I don't want you to see my face now." His voice sounded a bit hoarse.
Zen was acting weird. I can't help but start keeping a distance away from him. I can hear his footsteps coming closer to me.
He guided me to his bed. We sat down but I felt the bed wet. "Zen, why is your bed wet? Don't tell me you had no mood to go to the toilet. If that's so, I've just touched your pee."
He didn't even laugh at my small joke. "I slashed myself, those were my blood. I couldn't relieve my pain. Because of you, Harley."
