i saw an angel tonight
outside
my bedroom window
she stared at me
floating there
motionless
she never spoke
yet
i could feel
something
a sadness
a finality
i looked past her
to my neighbours
where
angels
floated
at their windows
a sadness
a fear
overtook me
i looked back at my angel
a single tear
rolled
down her cheek
"i'm sorry"
she whispered
and then
she disappeared
i stared
confused
for a moment or two
awaiting her return
but
she never returned
all the other angels
had disappeared
as well
suddenly
there was a darkness
as though
someone
had thrown a switch
and
turned off the world
a tear rolled down my cheek
then
a bright light
