Season: Three

Episode(s): Hounded - ???

We sat in the common room of the cell block the next morning, eating some oatmeal.

"Everybody okay?" Rick's voice came from the door.

"Yeah, we are," Maggie answered.

"What about you?" Daddy asked.

"I cleared out the boiler block," Rick said.

"How many were there?" Daryl asked.

"I don't know," Rick rubbed his eyes. "A dozen, two dozen. I have to get back. Just wanted to check on Carl."

"Rick, we can handle taking out the bodies," Glenn stood up. "You don't have to."

"No, I do," Rick insisted. "Everyone have a gun and a knife?"

"Yeah," Daryl nodded. "We're runnin' low on ammo, though."

"Maggie and me were planning on making a run this afternoon," Glenn said. "Found a phone book with some places we can hit, look for bullets and formula."

"We cleared out the generator room," Daryl said. "Axel's there tryin' to fix it in case of emergency. We're gonna sweep the lower levels as well."

"Good. Good," Rick said. He made his way out of the cell block.

"Rick," I called, but I was cut off by the door slamming shut.

Hours later, Maggie and Glenn left on their run. Daryl was still down in the generator block. Beth was mixing up some dinner. I had the baby in my arms.

Rick returned. The baby started fussing on his entrance. Rick gently picked up his daughter and looked at her chubby face.

A real smile appeared on his face for the first time in a while.

Rick, Carl, Beth, Daddy, and I walked outside for a bit. Li'l Ass-Kicker squinted her eyes at the sun.

"She looks like you," Rick said to Carl.

"Really?" I joked. "I like to think she looks like me." Rick stared at something beyond the fences.

"Hey, just-- you got her?" he handed her to Carl.

"Yeah," Carl nodded.

"Alright," Rick nodded. I followed Rick down to the fence, curious to what was going on. The usual walkers growled and clawed at the fence, but a new figure was present.

A black female with dreadlocks and a katana made her way towards the fence. What intrigued me most was that she was carrying a red basket with baby formula.

Somehow, the walkers weren't noticing her. She was covered in guts. She was also limping, it looked like she had been shot.

She gripped the fence, her eyes practically begging us to let her in.

The others saw what was going on and came in our direction.

The woman winced and gripped her wounded leg. The walkers started to take notice of her. The woman slowly limped backwards and drew her sword.

"Should we help her?" Carl asked. Rick didn't answer, but I wasn't going to let this woman die when there was a chance we could save her.

"Screw it," I muttered and climbed over the fence.

"Ryan, no!" Beth screamed. I ignored her and started helping the woman with the walkers. Suddenly, she collapsed. Two walkers closed in on her. I drew my bow and killed them both.
