*Ryan's POV*

Nicholas and Aidan were suspended until the next run. It was satisfying; they deserved it. My next project?

Talk to Beth.

At dusk, I walked into her and Enid's room. Enid was out and Beth was laying in her bed, reading a book.

"Hey, honey," I said. She lifted her head.

"Hi," she grunted.

"So," I shuffled my feet and walked over to her bed. "Maggie told me Daryl saved your life on the road."

"Yeah," Beth said, a smile creeping onto her face. I plopped next to her.

"He's good like that," I said. "He'd do it for anyone, you know that." Beth didn't speak.

"Y'know, him and I are kind of... together now," I said. "I know that you have a crush on him, and that's cool, as long as it stays a crush."

"You don't get it," Beth hissed. "You broke him. He used to be strong, now he's weak, because you made him."

"Beth, if anythin' he's stronger now," I said. "I understand how you're feelin', I totally get it. But some times, you have to move on."

"We're meant to be together," Beth reasoned. "I know it. I love him, and soon, he'll love me. You just gotta stay outta the way."

I shuddered and walked away. Beth was infatuated, borderline obsessed. I didn't think people could get so obsessed about men twice their age.

I walked into my room. Daryl was laying on the bed, clocked out. His limbs were stretched across the bed. He kinda looked like a human tornado. There was no room for me.

"Hey," I nudged his arm. Nothing.

"Daryl," I shook him harder. Nothing. This called for drastic measures.

"Daryl, some freak just stole your crossbow!" I exclaimed. His eyes opened and his head popped up.

"Say what now?" he gasped.

"Now that I have your attention, move over, I wanna sleep," I said. He rolled his eyes and shifted over.

"Thanks, Darry," I smirked and kissed his head. He stretched his arm over my front and rubbed my left shoulder.

"You're so beautiful," he muttered. He wrapped his arms tightly around me, like a scared child would hold his stuffed bear.

"Beth likes ya," I said suddenly. He turned and faced me.

"What?" he scoffed. "That's ridiculous."

"Let me rephrase: she's obsessed with ya," I said. "You saved her life, and she thinks it was an act of love."

"Beth's great," Daryl explained. "She's hopeful, sweet, and a good singer. But I don't think I could ever like her like that. I mean, it was really weird like a week ago, when she grabbed me and kissed me--"

"Hold up," I stopped him. "She kissed you?"

"Yeah," Daryl nodded. "I was so stunned, I didn't pull away at first--"

"Oh, my God!" I yelled. "You didn't pull away? That's it! You gave her false hope!"

"Well, I'm sorry," he scoffed. "I didn't pull away because I was thinkin' of you!"

"Why the hell were you thinkin' of me??"

"Because I love you, goddammit!"

Boom. Silence. We stared at each other for a straight three minutes before I spoke up.
