After dinner, Logan sat down at one corner of the couch as he sadly sighed. Jennifer sat down next to him and said, "Don't be angry with Doreen. She was only curious about what you did back when things didn't work out so well." Logan retorted lightly, "I'm not angry with Doreen. I'm upset about myself. On how things quickly turned to shit. Now I don't know what to do or where to go. Right now, I need money so I don't have to worry about Doreen watching me get beaten by Charlie and Otis again." Just then Doreen came in and announced, "Hey Mister Logan, I've been thinking. To help pay your rent, I'm planning to sell my toys." Logan shook his head as he stated, "You are not going to sell your toys. You love those things to death." Doreen shrugged, "But Mister Logan, I want to help you." Jennifer gestures Doreen to go sit on her lap and she complied. "Look, I can try to reason with them to extend the rent to next month," offered Jennifer gently. "They can be reasonable when they want to." Logan shook his head as he retorted, "This is your cousin and his grandchildren we're talking about. They don't do reasonable and we both know it. They can't look weak in front of everyone. They have to punish the ones who don't pay rent." Jennifer sighed, knowing it was true. Logan sighed, "Wish things were a little more simpler if I still had my last job." Logan once worked in a butcher shop for two months and it helped him pay rent, spend some money on alcohol, and get less beatings from the Hulk Gang. Unfortunately by the end of the second month, all the meat went bad and the butcher shop went out of business. In order to pay for the second month's rent, Logan had to sell his motorcycle. Then the wall phone rang. Jennifer got up and walked to answer it. "Hello? Yes, this is she," said Jennifer. She listened intently as Logan and Doreen wondered who she was talking to. "Got the job? Oh, good," smiled Jennifer with relief. Her eyes narrowed as she asked, "Tomorrow morning? Okay. I'll let him know. Thank you." Jennifer hung up the phone as Logan asked, "Who was that on the phone?" Jennifer smiled, "A friend who's willing to offer you a job." Logan straightened his posture as he angrily asked, "You WHAT?!!!" Jennifer crossed her arms as she replied, "Look, if you're planning on staying here, then sitting around isn't going to help anything. Look, my friend is going to pay you money worth six months of rent if you do this job." Logan said, "This 'job' sounds big. Is it legal?" Jennifer nodded, "Yes. So what do you say?" Logan contemplated about this as he sighed, "Okay, I'll do it. On one condition: No fighting." Jennifer assured, "Don't worry. The job won't involve any fighting whatsoever." Logan slouched back on the couch as he could only hope Jennifer was right about this. About no fighting.
Later tonight, Logan picked up his scroll and dialed in Yang's number. "Hi, this is Yang. I'm not here right now but leave a message after the beep," said Yang's voice. "Hey Yang. It's me Logan. I just wanted to call you to make sure you're doin' okay," said Logan. "And darlin', I love you. So please answer back." Then Logan sighed as he hung up. Jennifer came in and reminded, "You know she's not going to call back. That day gave you and Yang a heavy toll." Logan hung his head as Jennifer stood next to him. "I'm not saying you should give her up," assured Jennifer. "I'm saying maybe after the job, you should go out and see her." Logan shrugged, "I'm not sure she wants to see me at all after what happened all those months ago. I'm not the same person I used to be. I'm no huntsman." Logan walked into his bedroom and changed into his pajamas. He was on his way to the bathroom but stopped short as he turned to see Jennifer tucking Doreen into bed. Doreen asked, "Is Mister Logan all right?" Jennifer sighed, "Mister Logan is still sad because his friend is not calling him." Doreen asked, "Is there any way we can make him feel better?" Logan sadly looked to one side as Jennifer answered, "I'm not sure if we can but we can try. We all try to start again when things don't go well." Logan walked into the bathroom as he began to brush his teeth. After Logan cleaned the sink off, he looked at himself in the mirror. For a minute there, Logan could've sworn he saw himself wearing his Wolverine uniform. He shook his head as he looked at himself in the mirror again. It was just his normal reflection. "I think my mind is playing tricks with me," muttered Logan to himself. "I'm not Wolverine. Wolverine died the day Beacon fell." Logan left the bathroom with Jennifer and Doreen in front of him. Jennifer advised, "Don't go around lying to yourself. It's bad for you and bad for the people closest to you." Logan sighed, "How can I? Everyone I know goes away in the end. My fighting spirit's gone, I haven't raised my voice, and even popped out my claws for six whole months." Doreen held his hand as Logan looked down to face her. Logan smiled a little as he said, "I'm fine, baby girl. Today was just a rough one for me." "Isn't everyday rough for you?" asked Doreen. Logan kneeled down to face her as he replied, "Not everyday. I celebrated your 8th birthday party with you and your mom the other night. It was the best day I've had since living here." Doreen hugged Logan as he hugged back.
