Little Ones

I walk in the door with my heavy bags,

My arms are laden, my knees sag.

Not seconds later I am bombarded,

Little arms around my legs; my heart's restarted.

I scoop the little girl up to my chest,

Hugging and cuddling her; she's the best.

My little brother comes tearing out of nowhere,

Hands full of plastic treasures; he grasps me like a bear.

I grip them all close, relishing the moment and love,

Could it be more like this? I ask above.

Then, I search for the four month old.

He's a sweetie; worth more than gold.

I hold and feed him, talking with the adults,

My grandma and grandpa, stepmom, aunt and uncle.

Then gifts are opened swiftly and excitedly; the dog runs rampant,

I've received a necklace of gold and silver; a scarf and gloves of soft fabric.

Earrings to match my golden necklace,

And a white hat to top the white fabric.

Overall, it's been a strange day.

But I wouldn't change it, not in anyway.
