Hey, there, my Darla,
Wantin' to ask, how been ya?
Where have you gone?
Why haven't we spoken in so long?
Hey, there, my Darla,
I just wanted to say I love ya,
These letters never seem to meet your eyes.
Perhaps it's because you're staring at the skies.
Hey, there, my Darla,
Times have been rough, and for ya?
I'm living with my friends,
Trying to meet ends.
Hey, there Darla,
Haven't heard from ya.
Sometime these will find your far-away place,
But, please, know by then, it will be too late.
A year passes, quickly and painfully...hello--goodbye;
Darla finds her letters written by a small-town boy.
She was off finding the world, and forgot to look back.
When she did, it was too late, and he was off the sending rack.
Darla's boy had fallen on hard times,
And wanted the girl from his mind.
The only way to find her was to die,
So he did; so she would see him in the sky.
