Sawyer stayed at my house for a couple days after that. I gotta admit, it was hard to keep him a secret. I guess he told Anna he was staying at a friends house, I wouldn't say I was a friend. More like someone who tolerates him.
Today was the day of a foster event. The agency wanted my parents to go the the event to get to know all the social workers. I was ready to go in a loose, dark green t-shirt; light wash jeans; and white converse. I went downstairs to meet my parents in the car outside.
We headed to the location, which takes about 20 minutes to get there. We all were silent with anticipation. The car pulled up to the event and we all tumbled out of the car. My parents went straight to the social worker they have been talking to about the child.
I walked around the building by myself. It was a big gymnasium, and the event I was supposed to be at was in a separate, little room. I wondered about and got myself a drink from one of the concessions there.
I wonder what Sawyer told Anna about him being at a 'friend's' house for so long. I wish he would tell me who did it to him. He's so bad for pushing me away when I try to get to know him. He even told me I need to get to know him, but right when I get to doing it, he backs away and puts his walls up.
I went back to the room where everything was happening and sat at a table in the back corner. I was scrolling through my social media when I see someone out of the corner of my eye, take the seat beside me.
"Hello?"I look up to the guy who had the sudden interest to sit by me.
"Hey," he said with a confident smile. "My name is Drew, and I'm gay," he said with a laugh. "I have to make sure to say that to the ladies. I don't want to lead them on,"
"Okay, then" I laughed at his bluntness. "It's nice to meet you Drew, I'm Peyton," I reached my hand out to shake his. He left me hanging, because a guy from across the room caught his attention.
"Sorry," he smiled slightly. "But did you see that hunk of man over there?"
He moved his hand up and tried to point someone out.
I looked and saw no one, "Nope, but tons of little kids," I laughed at his failed attempt.
"Whatever," he rolled his eyes in amusement. "I gotta go back to my foster parents, I'll see you later Peyton," with that he left.
I decided to join my parents and stood by their side. I was letting my eyes wonder and I saw a familiar face. I focused my vision to try and make out the mystery girl. When she started walking a little closer to my vision rage I was shocked. Anna. What is she doing here? Is she a social worker or something? Anna moved to the side and Sawyer. We locked gazes and his expression turned from bored to 'get me the hell out of here' in less than one millisecond. I tried to walk towards him, but he quickly turned around and stepped out of the event. Why does he have to be so difficult? I didn't bother to try to catch him. If he didn't want me to talk to him, then that's what he'll get.
The event was over after a couple of hours. My parents and I, went out to get some Italian, and then back home. I tried texting Sawyer to at least see if he wanted to hangout Saturday, but no replies. I then tried Rein and invited her over today and she said she'd be here in ten minutes. Wow, actually someone reliable. I'm starting to really like her company.
Rein showed up at the time she said she would. We chilled and watched some romantic films, my choice of course. I was only able to watch two and the after that it's three horror movies for her. Because, apparently she needs an extra couple of hours to get over all the lovey doveyness.
"I went to a foster event, with my parents today," I bring up as the previews play.
"Oh really? How was it?" She turned her full attention to me.
"Pretty good. They told us that we'd be getting a kid tomorrow. They said we passed all the tests and requirements," I was smiling like a fool. I'm genuinely happy for my parents, I know they always wanted to help the kids and now they get to.
"Are you worried at all?" I gave her a confused look. "You know, that the kid will get bother you?"
"Not at all, I love kids," I rolled my eyes at her. "You just don't have the patience or the filter," we both laughed and watched the movies.
Rein fell asleep during her first horror film. I decided to leave her there and go up to my room to sleep. I checked my phone before I closed my eyes. Still no replies. I fell asleep thinking of him, and wondering if I did something to offend him in anyway.
"Peyton," I felt someone poke my cheek.
I groaned in response and turned the other way. I was not waking up.
"Peyton Isabelle Anderson!"
I shot up in terror. The sound of your mother waking you up by yelling your full name is absolutely terrifying.
"I'm up!" I stretched and yawned as I straightened myself on my bed. I turned to see my mom smiling like a crazy person. "Why are you so happy? It's morning,"
"Well, I just got off the phone with the agency and we get to meet the foster kid Monday!" My mom grabbed my hand and jumped in place. "Her name is Vikki and she's four years old,"
I smiled back at her, "That's great,mom!"
"I'm gonna throw her a little party for when she gets here," she sat up off my bed and walked towards my door. "The social worker told me she likes mermaids, but since it's winter, I'm kinda stuck on what to do," her smile then turned to a slight frown.
"Don't worry, we'll figure something out," I reassured her.
She left my room and thankfully shut the door. So now I can call Sawyer, maybe he was just too busy? Wait, no. I won't call him, I'll seem too clingy. I need to stop this. I decided on texting Rein to ask her if I should call him or not, she replied with 'Hell to the fucking no'. That says it. Why can't he just be simple? He always has to be the complicated one. He's a total girl with all these pmsing mood swings. He could have at least said a little hello at the event. I thought we were good enough friends to do that tiniest of a gesture.
(A/N): this chapter is lil bit shorter than usual. But we're finally getting to the good stuff☺Don't forget to vote!
