Sawyer's POV

When I was little, I was scared of the monsters under my bed, the scary movie playing on the tv, the darkness the would fill my room at night, and my father. But now being 18, I'm scared of losing a girl. Not just any girl, my girlfriend. Yet she's just not my girlfriend, she's my best friend. Now I'm scared of losing my best friend to one of my other fears. One that I can't just grow out of. It'll always stay at the back of my mind. He will haunt me till the day I die.

That's the last thing I want for Peyton. She has her own demons to deal with, now she has to handle mine too. I guess that's what relationships are. You have to understand and deal with each other's pasts and problems. But she deserves better. She deserves someone whose demons are the fact they didn't get into the college they wanted to or didn't get to fulfill their ambitious dreams. She shouldn't have to handle my abusive, alcoholic father. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't only the past, but now he's in my present and future. I too thought that he was just my dark past. He brought himself back to break everything I have. Even if it meant breaking another human being to get back at me.

"You're already awake?" I heard her sweet voice through her messy morning hair covering her face.

"Yea," I replied with a kiss on her cheek. "Couldn't sleep,"

I watched her as she snuggled her face into my chest and dangled her arms around my torso, pulling me closer. "My parents will be here this evening," I totally forgot about her parents being in California. They're gone so much that I forget they exist. "So, I was thinking you could come over tonight after you get cleaned up and meet my parents officially,"

"Officially?" I know I haven't sat down and had a heart to heart conversation with them yet, but I have met them.

"You know what I mean," she giggled. "My parents don't even know we're back together. I just want them to get to know you, so they can love you just like I do," she shook her. "Wait no, not like I love you, that'd be weird,"

I couldn't help but laugh at her silliness. "You are weird,"

"Excuse me?" She leaned away from me, she said with the most serious look on her face. It was as if I just ran over her beloved pet she had since childhood.

"You," I leaned closer to her face. "Are," closer. "Weird!" I exclaimed as threw my face into her neck.

"Stop it, Sawyer!" She yelled in between laughs. "That tickles!" She screamed her laughs, while begging for a nice breath of air.

I pulled back to look at her. Her eyes are filled with curiosity of what I'll do next. Her hair is crazier than before, I didn't even know that was possible. Her legs are wrapped around me like monkey hanging on for it's life. Her arms are sprawled out in odd positions. Yet, she's still gorgeous.

"Are going to stop gawking and kiss me?" She grinned from ear to ear.

"You're so beautiful," I went back down to meet her perfectly plump lips.

"Oh really?" She said after I leaned away. "I thought I was weird?"

"Both," I stated sharply and went in for another kiss, but this time she dodged it. "Come on," I whined.

"You need to leave before I parents get here," she pushed me away after kiss my cheek and left for the bathroom. "I'll see you later,"

I nodded and proceeded to pick my clothes off her floor. I clothed myself before she got out of the bathroom. I didn't want to leave her here alone. What if they came here after I left? I wouldn't be able to help her. I shook my head at the terrible thoughts of them coming after her. She'll be okay. Her parents will be home shortly after I leave. I'll be back tonight to meet them. It'll all go as planned.
