Peyton's POV

I got home late that night and had a little with my dad. My mom went to bed not caring, yet my dad stayed up to finally be a parent to me. There's a first for everything I guess.

"What do you think you're doing staying out till midnight?" he was fuming. "You always let us know where you're going and if you'll be out late. What happened to that?"

I looked away. I didn't want to tell him everything that has happened, "I'm sorry, okay?"

I was hoping sorry would be acceptable until I could come up with an excuse in the morning. I didn't want to tell him about what Ava did today. He might find out either way from talk going around town, but I will hold it back from him if I can. I don't even know if anyone is standing behind her on this one. Maybe people are calling her out on her bullshit. But I doubt it. People will believe anything they hear, even if it comes from a coward who can't say stuff to the person's face.

"Sorry won't cut it, Peyton," he sat down on the couch, setting his head in his hands. "I thought I could trust you to tell us. I thought you would at least give us a heads up,"

"A lot has happened," I wasn't lying. If I told him, he wouldn't know how to handle it. "I want you to know that what I'm holding back from telling you, is something you're better off not knowing," I sat down beside him and laid my head on his shoulder.

He lifted his head out of his hands to finally look at me, "I hate that you feel like you have to hide stuff from us,"

"I know, Dad," I gave him a light hug before I stood back up on my feet. "Just trust me,"

He gave me a devious smile, "Don't think you're not grounded,"

"Just as I thought I was off the hook," I sarcastically replied with a laugh.

He rose off his seat and walked up the stairs, "Go to bed, hun. Goodnight,"

"Goodnight," I said back as I saw his tall figure disappear up the stairs.

I grabbed a water from the kitchen before I went up to my bedroom. I pulled off today's clothes and put an oversized t-shirt over my body. I went straight to bed and let my mind wonder off until I was out.

I was sleeping heavenly, until it was interrupted by a pinch on my cheek. I groaned in response, hoping the rude intruder would get the hint.

"If you don't wake up, I'll just join you," my brain identified the voice as Sawyer's.

I turned over in bed to look up at him and smile, "It's you,"

"It's me," he smiled back as he lowered himself on his knees next to my bed. Even through my blurry morning eyes, he looks amazing.

"Do my parents know you're here?"

"No," he had a smirk playing on his lips. "They were already gone when I got here," I forgot that my parents were taking Vikki out to their friends' houses to meet her and then to the mall to let her pick out some clothes she liked. "You weren't answering your phone and the door was opened. I came up here and found you here in your natural habitat," He laughed at his joke.

I slapped him lightly on the shoulder, "Whatever," I rolled my eyes and moved myself over towards the other side of the bed. "I'm not ready to get up just yet, lay down with me,"

He didn't say anything as he stood up. I watched him as he took off his shirt. He did slowly like he knew I was watching him. He teased he even more when he winked as he pulled his jeans down his legs.
