Peyton's POV
My peaceful sleep was interrupted yet again. Something that seems to be happening a lot lately. Do people have a problem with me sleeping? I groaned to turn away from whoever or whatever was poking me awake.
"Wake up," the voice was whiny. "I'm scared," I continued to ignore and focused on going back to sleep. "Peypey!" I jumped out of my sleep hazed state to come face to face to Vikki.
"Hun, what are you doing in here?" I rubbed my eyes trying to wake myself up.
Vikki pulled herself up on my bed with a struggle, "I had a nightmawe,"
"Awe, come on. I'll take you to your bed, read you a story, and check for monsters," I picked her up off my bed, and carried her to her room across the hall. I laid her down, tucking her in with one hand as I reached for a book. I grabbed a book and began to read. Only to have Vikki interrupt me.
"Check foe monsters fiwst," her eyes searching the room in fright. I leaned in to put a small kiss on her forehead and smiled down at her.
"Will do, sweety," I pushed myself off the bed and got on my hands and knees to look under her bed.
I remember when I was younger being scared of the monsters under my bed (Cue Rihanna). I would cry and yell for my dad to come to my room almost every night. I believed that if I would let any part of my body out of the covers, it would drag me. Kind of dark for a child's mind. Only to fill up our imaginations and scare the shit out of us.
When my dad came into my room those nights, he would bring in a spray bottle labeled 'Monster No More'. I honestly believed they were gone after he sprayed the magical potion all over my room and under my bed. He was my hero. He still is my hero.
No matter how much my mom still acts like a teenager herself and has the mood swings as well, my dad was there to level it out. I know he was always playing both fields to make us both happy. I have to applaud the man for dealing with two girl teenagers. He's amazing at being a dad and husband. Managing finances, taxes, bills, house fixes, etc. He does it all while my mom sits back and plays house. She's a great woman with a wild imagination. I guess I know where I got it from. Maybe her case is just a little more serious than mine.
"All good," I raised off my hands to look back at Vikki. "No monsters," I gave her a smile to insure her. "Story time now?"
I could see the relief melt off of her as she relaxed back into her pillows, "Yes!"
I read the beauty and the beast as she slowly closed her eyes to sleep. She looked so peaceful and innocent. That was because she is. She's the sweetest little girl in the world.
"I love you, Vikki. Sleep tight," I gave her one last kiss on the head. She turned onto her side, making herself more comfortable.
"She really is great," I jumped out of my skin at the sudden voice. Why is everyone waking me up or scaring me half to death? I knew who the voice belonged to.
"She really is, mom,"
"I always wanted another after you. But I was too busy and then when I was able to try, I wasn't able to," she moved over to stand next to me. She looked tired, almost like she hasn't slept in days. I haven't seen her in so long from her and Dad's busy schedule.
"I know. Vikki is the one you want, she's wonderful,"
"I'm planning on filing adoption papers. She already feels like a part of the family. Why not make it official?"
