Sawyer's POV
I woke up the next morning feeling super tired. The reason for that was that I got zero sleep last night. I tossed and turned, only thinking about Peyton. If her plan was to get inside my head, she got what she wanted. Were all my intentions just to hurt her, or was I just hiding something deeper from erupting from the inside? I might not be for sure now, but I'll figure out sooner or later.
I raised out of bed and decided to get ready for school. Anna would start getting worried if I told her my stomach was still hurting. She would decide to take me to the doctor and then I would be busted for faking it. I went to the bathroom and got a very needed shower. Maybe a shower would help take my mind off things, or make me think even more.
I got out of the shower and walked out of the bathroom with a towel around my hips. I grabbed my boxers, a white t-shirt, and a pair of black jeans. I went downstairs for breakfast to see Anna whipping up some pancakes.
"Good morning," I say as I walked into the kitchen. "Why are you making pancakes? Aren't you supposed to be leaving for work?" I wasn't really worried about her leaving for work too late. I was more worried about my senses. Anna couldn't cook to save her life; and right now, she's burning the pancakes to a crisp.
"I have today off, I wanted to spend time with you," she turns around with a sad face. "But, seeing that you're ready for school. I guess I'll use today to catch up on paperwork," she let out a big sigh and turned back to her burnt pancakes.
I stepped closer to where she was standing, and took a look over her shoulder at the pancakes. Why is she leaving them on the pan? The pancake is legitimately black. I pushed her to the side and threw all her scorched junk into the scrap bowl for Bruno, my English bulldog. Anna got him for me yesterday, he wasn't supposed to me until Christmas. But the people we got him from said we had to get him now or they would sell him to someone else.
"I'll cook breakfast, you already burned the last five," I laughed at her failed attempts. "Why did you think they would get better?"
"Shush, you," she went over to the breakfast nook to check her work emails. "I tried. That's what counts,"
"Sure, keep telling yourself that," I laughed even more when she gave me a mean glare.
"So, about Peyton," she tried changing the subject.
"No, Anna," I stopped her before she could start. I finally got her out of my thoughts for five minutes and she had to bring them back.
"Sawyer, I know something is going on," her tone became serious all of the sudden. "You have never let a girl over more than once. I know there are ones I have never seen. I know it's only twice, but it's still different from your past ones. Is she different, Sawyer?"
I flipped pancake and turned my attention to her, "Yes, she's different. That still doesn't mean that I have all these feelings for her all the sudden,"
"I know you better than anyone," she was going full on mom mode on me. "I know you hide your true feelings. I also know you honestly want to change, but you're too afraid of being that vulnerable to someone,"
"I don't want to hurt her, Anna," I turned back around to put the pancake on her plate. "But, I already have. I'm even more scared to hurt her if we actually become closer, I don't want to hurt her with my past,"
"Your past is something that will come out either way. You just need to decide who you trust to get to know you in that way. But, trust me when I say this, you're worth more than you think. Don't feel like your past is too much and let it hold you back from a bright future. You are more than just your past," she stood up to grab her food. Before she left to go sit down, she gave my hand a slight squeeze.
