THE AWAKENING

Chapter 1, 60 years

Elena Gilbert woke up from her 60 years sleep, she was wearing the same blue dress she wore 60 years ago when Kai put her under a spell. She got out of the wooden brown coffin that was padded inside and saw someone standing there in the archway, it was Stefan Salvatore, she smiled and ran up to him wrapping her arms around his waist. He smiled releasing her hug gazing into her eyes and they walked outside, Elena got blinded by the sunlight as she stepped out. Stefan laughed and guided her to a bench under some trees for a shade and they both sat down.

"Elena it's been a hell of a long time" he smiled

"How long was I in there for?" Elena asked

"60 years" Stefan frowned

"Oh my god that means Bonnies dead.. When did Bonnie die??" Elena asked

"She died last week and we weren't sure if you were ever going to wake up so I came here today to write a diary entry for you and then I saw you stood there" Stefan smiled widely

"Where is everyone??" She asked

"Elena... There's a lot you need to hear but not right now" Stefan frowned

"No Stefan please tell me, what happened to Caroline, Matt, Jeremy, Tyler, Alaric, Damon...?" She paused and asked

"Elena Caroline is fine she's waiting for you with Damon at home" Stefan smiled
"What about the others??" Elena asked curiously

"I need to show you something.." Stefan paused

They both got up and started to walk down a narrow pebble path, they came across the sign mystic falls cemetery, it looked so different, the grass began to cover most headstones as they walked past, it clearly hadn't been cut in a while. Stefan glanced at elena and thy stopped between two graves, She looked and She couldn't believe what she saw, She shook her head as Stefan glanced at her, she knew down to the pebbled path and put her hand on top of one of the headstones smearing the dirt across it to the side so She could see the name clearly... It was Matt Donovan he died 20 years ago, She sobbed and then noticed the other grave which said Enzo 30 years ago.. She cried harder and harder.

"Elena.. Matt had an amazing life, he got married and he has a daughter" Stefan smiled

"Really?" Elena asked wiping the tears from her eyes

"Yeah.. Matt graduated as a police officer and met a woman called penny, they fell in love and got married a few years later and they moved into a really nice house on the outskirts of town and they had a little girl, they named her Sophie Donovan, Matt's dad looks after her in a place where the old college was, she's now 34 she's a human, Matt was so happy and then he died of a heart attack he was 67 and he got diagnosed with mental health issues and after you had gone.. He started to smoke and do drugs and he went into rehab and when he died his wife was really unhappy so she checked herself into a mental unit" Stefan explained

"Oh Matt.. I wish I got to saw you grow up, it seems like you had an amazing life with a wonderful woman and a little girl, I hope I can meet her someday, I miss you so much, I'm so proud, I love you Matt" Elena cried

"He was happy Elena. On his deathbed he told me to tell you how happy he was and that he had a fulfilled life that you always wanted for him" Stefan smiled

"Im glad, what happened to Enzo Stefan??' Elena asked

"After Jo died and then after you temporarily died  and bonnie, he had lost it, he was binge drinking everyday and  he couldn't handle the pressure so he drank himself to death, he had to have a kidney transplant and when he got one he started smoking which damaged his lungs and one night we fount him in his chair with a bottle of beer and he was gone.." Stefan frowned
