"Freia, wake up!"
My eyes fluttered open to find Party, Jet, Ghoul and Kobra standing over me. Party was shaking my shoulder, and Ghoul was trying his best to hold back a laugh.
"What the hell..." I grumbled.
"Do you know how loud you snore?" Ghoul cackled. I covered my face with my hands.
"What's happening?" I yawned.
"Time to get up, sweetheart. We're going into the city." Party smirked, letting go of my shoulder.
Sitting up from my temporary bed on the booths, I found Dylan waiting by the door, ready to go. I quickly brushed my hands through my hair, and went to go find my jacket.
"It's too early for this." I moaned as I shuffled my feet back over to the four Killjoys.
"It's almost noon." Said Jet, who was rubbing his helmet with his sleeve.
"We talked to Storm about how the plan is gonna go down. He seems prepared enough." Ghoul told me, looking over at my kid brother. He just stared at the door, sitting cross-legged on the floor.
"I just want him to make it out okay." I felt concern rush through my veins. What if they killed him. Ghoul grabbed hold of my shoulders.
"Don't worry," he smiled "we'll protect him."
I nodded, feeling a bit more reassured. They were Killjoys. They could do anything, right?
"Alright, time to go." Party announced. I grabbed Dylan's hand as we followed the leader out.
"You'll be okay." Was all I said to him.
"I'm exited! This is my first Killjoy mission!" Dylan jumped.
"You really wanna be a Killjoy?" I smiled down at him.
"Do I ever!" He grinned back at me.
Kobra, Jet and Ghoul loaded themselves into the back of the car, leaving Party and I in the front with Dylan in my lap, just like always. But it was only a matter of time before Dylan left the front of the car to go sit on Ghouls' lap in the back.
"Jeez, why does he like you so much?" Jet scratched his head.
"Because I, unlike the rest of you idiots, know how to handle kids."
"Oh please," Party started, "what would you know about kids?"
Ghoul didn't respond. Instead, he began to hum to himself. I recognized the song from somewhere, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Hey Ghoul, what are you humming?" I turned my head around to look at him.
"American Idiot. I feel like the song is pretty accurate at the moment."
'I remember that song! Dad used to play it all the time!'
"Welcome to a new kind of tension, all across the alien nation..." I joined in.
"Hey, how do you know Green Day?" Ghoul cracked a smile.
"Where everything isn't meant to be okay..." Party quietly sang along.
"Television dreams of tomorrow, we're not the ones who're meant to follow..." Ghoul continued. The car went silent for a brief second, until the entire group erupted into the biggest chorus I had ever heard, causing poor Dylan to jump.
"FOR THAT'S ENOUGH TO ARGUE!!!"
Party began to slap his hands against the wheel like a drum.
"WELL MAYBE I'M THE F***** AMERICA! I'M NOT A PART OF THE REDNECK AGENDA. NOW EVERYBODY DO THE PROPAGANDA, AND SING ALONG TO THE AGE OF PARANOIA!"
Everyone in the car was wailing out the entire song. By the time we finished, we were all out of breath. Party giggled, leaning his head against the back of the drivers seat.
"I haven't heard that song in forever."
"Me neither." I admitted, panting.
"When are we gonna be there?" Dylan asked.
"Not for a while." Jet answered.
Dylan let out a huff of frustration as party continued to drive.
---
After a solid two and a half, I caught sight of the city. It felt like years since the last time I saw it. It was hard to believe that it had only been a week. Party parked the car a few blocks away from BL/ind headquarters. Together, the four Killjoys, Dylan and I snuck through the silent back streets of Battery City.
"Alright Dylan." Party stopped the group to talk to the boy. "This is as far as we can go. You'll have to go in alone. Are you ready?"
"Yes." Dylan shook his head firmly.
"You know how to leave the doors unlocked?"
"Use the fake metal key-card." Dylan told him. Party smiled and passed Dylan a metal rectangle.
"You really prepared him for this." I said to Party.
"Well, I wasn't going to let him go without briefing him." Party replied. I walked over to my little brother.
"You better be careful, okay?" I looked at him sternly, but I felt a grin creep up on my face.
"Good luck." I gave Dylan a big hug.
"See ya soon, Storm!" Ghoul called as he walked away.
"Don't die!" Jet added.
"What he said." Kobra smirked.
Hey, so I know nothing really happened in this chapter, but the next chapter will be much more interesting, I swear.
