We hurried back to Zone 6 as fast as we could, praying that Korse hadn't found the diner. To our relief, we caught sight of his white car driving away from Zone 6. But relief soon turned to fear when he noticed us, and began to shoot.
"Duck!" Party yelled. I opened the door of the Trans AM, rolling myself onto the dusty ground. Quickly, I reached for my gun.
"Freia, I know you're there. Come out." Korse called in a sing-song voice.
'How did he know who I was? Why was he looking for me.'
I felt Party's shoulder brush against mine, and I felt a bit more secure. Ghoul popped up from behind the car, firing a shot at one of the Dracs. Unfortunately, he missed. Korse let out a soft laugh, causing my skin to crawl.
"Please, I only want to talk." He asked.
"Stay down." Party whispered to me. He jumped onto his feet.
"What do you want." The Killjoy leader spoke to the enemy.
"I want the girl." Korse responded with authority.
"Too bad." Ghoul hissed, firing another shot.
Man, that boy needed better aim.
"Give her to me, or I will kill you both." Korse told the two men.
"Like you ever could." Ghoul sneered. I stood up.
"Freia, get back down!" Party ordered, but I didn't listen.
"You killed my family." I aimed my gun at the bald man, who let out another menacing chuckle.
"Killed them? My dear, I saved them."
"You're wrong!" I spat, the gun trembling in my hands.
'Just shoot. C'mon, you can do this.'
"You don't belong out here. citizens of Battery City must stay inside of the city limits. You got lucky when you escaped. I have to admit, I was shocked that none of my men were on patrol when you left. They suffered dearly. I'm here to take you back." Korse told me. I shook my head.
"Why would I ever go with you?"
"Don't make me kill a child. It just seems so... Unnecessary." Korse pointed his ray gun at me.
"Don't you dare." Party stepped in front of me, bringing me out of the range of the head Scarecrow's gun.
"Fascinating." Was all Korse said, before he pulled the trigger.
"NO!" I screamed as Party's body fell backwards into my chest. Ghoul let out a cry of anger, and began shooting everywhere. He managed to shoot two Dracs this time, causing Korse and the last remaining Drac to run for cover in the car. Ghoul continued shooting as the white BLI vehicle sped away.
"He's still breathing, we have to help him!" Party's head was resting on my lap as I knelt on the ground. His eyes were closed, and his breaths were fast and shallow. A pool of blood had began to form on his lower abdomen. Ghoul rushed over to help me carry Party into the back of the car. I sat in the back with him while Ghoul drove, once again letting the fallen leader use my lap as a resting place for his heavy head.
"Oh shit, c'mon Party." Ghoul muttered, driving as fast as he could. Five minutes later, Party's hazel eyes fluttered open.
"Don't ever do that to me again." I pushed his red hair out of his face. Party looked up at me, obvious pain in his face.
"I didn't want him to hurt you." Party choked out.
"You can't die for me. That's not fair." I found myself crying again. I seemed to do that quite a lot. A sad smile rested on Party's face.
