" All that hate is gonna burn you up
It keeps me warm at night
Warmer than anyone
I think how many drinks I've had
No more in either hand
I'm slurring on purpose And it's certainly worth it."

Party pulled the car over to the side of the road. We stepped out into the blazing desert sun.

"Normally I wouldn't stop here, but I needed to show you this place."

I looked around, expecting to see something, but all I saw was a long stretch of highway leading to who-knows-where.

"I don't get it, where are we?" I tilted my head.

"Route Guano." Ghoul walked up beside me.

"This is the road where we found you a few weeks ago. Patrols of Dracs always come down this way. It's risky as hell to be over here, and I wouldn't like to stick around very long." Party tapped his foot anxiously, turning back to the brightly decorated car. Party guided us away from Route Guano, and began our journey once again. It wasn't long until the car pulled up to an old gas station. The pavement out front was crackling, and a large sign shot out of the ground, the same image as the one on Party's jacket towering in the sky.

"This is Dead Pegasus." Party pointed to the badge on his jacket.

"We come here to pick up fuel and batteries." Ghoul told me. The two men hopped out of the car, and headed towards a familiar white box.

"Battery vendors? But why are they out here?" I gawked at the Better Living branded vending machine, created to dispense batteries for androids back in the city.

"A rebel jacked one from the slums of Bat City a few years ago. It just so happens that the android batteries give us the power we need for our guns." Ghoul sneered at the machine, as if he was taunting BLI and the power they unwillingly gave us.

"How convenient." I furrowed my brow. Party held out something that reminded me of an old Game Boy.

"What's that for?" I asked as he plugged the device into an outlet on the side of the vendor.

"Hack-O-Matic. Kobra designed it. I would have come up with a better name if Ghoul wasn't so keen on the retro theme." Party mocked his shorter friend, who stuck out his tongue in an act of defense.

"What? It just worked." Ghoul rationalized. Party fiddled around with the machine, until three new B.L.I batteries popped out. He tossed one to Ghoul, and then to me.

"Why do I get one?" I held the clean, white battery in the palm of my hand.

"So many questions." Party groaned in mock boredom.

"That gun isn't going to last forever. You're gonna need it to work." He pointed to the white ray gun in my side pocket. The three of us loaded our guns, and continued on our way.

"There's a sort of meeting place for all of the Killjoys up in Zone 4, so we'll head there right now. I think you should meet Dr. Death." Party informed me, speeding down the road. As we drove closer to Zone 4, I noticed a slight increase of Killjoys in the area. It had been a while since the last time I had seen another real person, besides the boys back at the diner and the new girl.

"So, there's a whole community?" I marveled at the unraveling population.

"Yep. When you're fighting for the same cause, you become a sort of family." Ghoul replied.
