Cameron's POV

We ran two red lights and nearly got stopped by the police before we could make it to the hospital Alice was in. I starred out the window the entire way there, the drive seemed endless... And to top it all of...the tension in the car between Shawn and I could cut glass. It was unbearable and it was driving me fucking insane...

He cleared this throat, finally breaking the silence in the car. "I'm sure she's okay."

"You don't know that." I snapped.

"You have to stay calm right now Cameron. Your short temper isn't helping you. I'm scared too."

"You're scared?" I snorted. He had no idea what he was talking about. "I'm the one who's scared Shawn! If something happened to her, it will be on me!"

Shawn sighed, "Let's just hope it isn't come down to anything serious, okay?"

I glared at him, but didn't respond. When he realized he wasn't getting any confirmation from me, he opened his mouth to speak again.

"And Cameron, Just so you know, I don't think she will do it."

"Do what?"

"She's not gonna leave her life behind to run away from your problems." He turned to me, "You'd be extremely selfish to ask her."

His words were bitter, but his eyes were dimmed cold. I didn't get him... But I think the thing with Shawn was, he didn't want to let go of Alice completely. I think he still wanted to keep her around, and I couldn't blame him. Even if he couldn't have her, being near her was enough for him. Thats what he lived off of. And he was right about me, he was right about me being selfish, about me being a screw up, about everything! Shawn was fucking right... I couldn't ask Alice to leave with me. I couldn't deprive her from her life here, away from her friends and family.

But keeping her near me would mean she'd be at risk. And I'm not selfish enough to do that either...

We rushed through the magnetic doors, running our way up to the front desk where an old lady stood, eyes furrowed starring at a computer screen.

"H-hi... what room i-is Alice Under-uh, Underwood in?" Shawn asked, rushing through his words and tripping over each and everyone of them.

I rolled my eyes at him, "is she in this hospital?" I turned to the lady. "We were told she was."

She looked over at us, then back at her computer screen, her glasses hung down the tip of her nose, making her appear older.

She scrunched her nose, uneasily asking: "Are you family?"

"Yes."

"No." Shawn and I said in unison.

I turned to him wide eyed, could he be more of an idiot? I punched his side rib in annoyance.

"Ouch!" He wined, eyes glaring at me.

"Okay, well which is it?" The old lady arched her brow expectingly.

"Well-" I began only to be cut off by Shawn.

"What we're trying to say is that uh-I'm family. I'm Alice's brother and he's her... Her boy-" my eye widened at Shawn's attempt to be civil with me. But he instantly recovered and corrected himself. "he's just her friend."

From the way the old lady's eyes crinkled I could tell she'd been doing this a while and she wasn't gonna budge. But a small smile and a little pleading was all she needed to give us her room number.

Still got a little bit of that charm, I guess.

"I should go in first, you know. Just in case her mom is in there. I'll come get you as soon as the coast is clear." Shawn turned to me as soon as we reached her room.
