The constant beat of the heart monitor is the only thing I hear once I wake up. A quiet groan leaves my lips as I slowly open my eyes. I wince as I feel a sudden burning feeling on my arm.

I look down at my arm, it's wrapped in elastic bandages. Elastic bandages surround my wound, blood seeping through the white material. I sigh as I remember the situation in the alley with my brother.

My brother.

I hear the door open and I quickly look up to see a nurse walking inside the room. She gives me a sympathetic smile and walks towards my bed.

"How are you feeling?" She asks as she gently grabs the bad hanging form the heart monitor.

I don't respond. She glances at me, her smile quickly fading. She grabs an orange capsule and takes out two white pills, about a centimeter long.

"Here." She says trying to hand them to me. I stare at them without taking them.

"Sir, please. They're pain meds." I look up at her, noticing a scar running across her left eyebrow.

I finally take them and hesitantly take them. She hands me a hold glass of water. I put the pills on the back of my tongue and chug down the cold water.

She sighs and stands up, leaving the room.

The front door swings open, tearing my eyes away from the TV screen I look at Carter while raising an eyebrow.

His breathing is uneven and his eyes are wide open in shock.

"What's going on?" I say putting my bowl of ice cream aside.

"It's Mason." He says his voice cracking.

I quickly stand up and look at him. "What? What happened?"

"They found him in alley." He breaths through his nose, trying to calm himself down. "He was shot in the chest."

And with those words, I was slipping my shoes on, quickly pushing both of us out of the door.

"What hospital?" I ask running towards the cars passenger seat.

He doesn't move, still in shock.

"Carter!" I yell as tears threaten to run down my cheeks. He looks up and quickly gets into the car.

"I-"

"Don't." I say as I clench onto the seat.

A single hot tear rolls down as I regret becoming close to Carter.
